My Public Lands Roadtrip: Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming

Published 2023-06-12
The #mypubliclandsroadtrip checks out the world’s largest outdoor rodeo – Cheyenne Frontier Days. Cheyenne Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyoming, began in 1897 and offers a range of activities from the daily rodeo, night shows, four parades, the USAF Thunderbirds Air Show and more. About 100 years later, BLM’s Wyoming State Office joined the annual event with an information booth, and now creates a replica of a General Land Office or GLO in the Old Frontier Town section of the event. From this location, the BLM provides information in an authentic setting, sets up paleontology and wildlife displays, and direct visitors to the wild horses and burros for adoption in the corrals adjacent to the GLO. The BLM Wyoming staff also rides in the annual parade with wildland fire partners from Wyoming State Forestry, and invites Smokey Bear to spread the message about the dangers of wildfires. This year, BLM employees even encouraged visitors to share photos from Frontier Days and their public lands with the #mypubliclandsroadtrip hashtag! Never a dull moment on a roadtrip in Wyoming!
