--NOTE BEFORE WATCHING--
When I started working on the first Scratch Crystal, I wasn't planning on creating a sequel. It was literally a test to animate a battle scene. Therefore, there are probably quite a few plot holes or inconsistencies here in the second part. I try to explain some of these at the bottom of the Notes & Credits; but please watch it first and then read them.

--A Few Notes on History--
(Please read AFTER watching)
You may be wondering how the scratch crystal came to be or who the shadow are. The scratch crystal was created long ago by an evil being. This being sought to control the universe, as evil beings have a tendency to want. Using immeasurable power, he foresaw that the animators would try to take the crystal. And so he used the crystal to create guardians, the shadow. The shadows' lives are tied to the crystal.
After a long battle fighting against the "animators of old", the being knew he was defeated. He hid the crystal on the peak of a mountaintop before being captured, and the shadow went into hiding. The animators of old found a map and a paper on the being; it read "Protect it at all costs, it's power is unmatched." One of the animators took it and kept it for safe-keeping.
Years later, Greeny found the map and paper in his great-grandfather's belongings. He knew about the war of the animators of old. He knew that eventually someone would find the scratch crystal and he didn't want it to fall into evil hands again. So after gathering a group of "the new age" of animators, he set out on a journey to protect the scratch crystal.
The shadow, knowing the scratch crystal was in danger, went to protect the crystal. After battling the animators, they got the crystal. After the evil being's demise, the shadow no longer had a master. They had no desire to take over the universe, their only drive was to survive. That's why they hid in a warehouse for months, protecting the crystal.
Another note: the shadow can only transport short distances; that's why they need a ship to travel. As you saw, whatever the shadow are touching when they transport comes with them.
This is probably a really cringey and cliche history, but there you go.
...and don't ask why the animators abandoned @huntedskelly.
