New Glitch in AutoCAD When Solving one of the Puzzlers

Published 2024-04-10
At one time the Defpoints layer was the only non-plot layer in AutoCAD. Old school users of AutoCAD would sometimes use the Defpoints layer -- that is created automatically when any dimension is inserted to hold the points used to define dimensions -- as a way of placing entities in a drawing that won't plot. For may years it has been possible to make any layer a non-plot layer, but occasionally an older drawing (or one created by an older user) would show up in an office and frustrate users when they couldn't select some object, often a viewport. There is a solution to that, one that appears the "Puzzlers" chapter in my book AutoCAD: Secrets Every User Should Know, but a new glitch in AutoCAD has confused some of the students in CAD Management when they try to solve the problem on a Puzzlers assignment. This video demonstrates that glitch and shows how to resolve it.
