This was really scary to see

Tonight as the Detroit Red Wings played host to the Ottawa Senators, we had an wild opening period with a truly scary scene of Dylan Larkin out cold, face down on the ice. Joseph trying to clear Larkin away, caught him high as Larkin went right into Kelley who's right hand or maybe the butt end of the stick appears to knock Larkin out. Considering his past with neck injuries, this was hard to watch. Thankfully he did somewhat skate off on his own. On the play, Perron getting the wrong guy, cross checked Zub to the face as well in what was just a wild sequence all around in an opening period that also saw Kane score his first as a Red Wing. Plenty to unpack but I cover it all in todays NHL hockey video!

My heart sank when Larkin wasn't moving. He has a history of getting serious hits to the head and it pisses me off to see it happen again. Admittedly, it didn't look intentional but it still sucks regardless. Perron made a boneheaded decision and got called for it. He arguably lost us the game by being the second forward to leave the game. Losing your captain and getting kicked 5-1 in you're own building feels awful

It's ok, it a just an "upper body injury" the NHL has it under control. (Sarcasm)

as Panters fan...never wanna see things like this happening..thats scary shit right there.. Hope Larkin is ok and he doesnt miss this season..He is a BEAST

When I first saw it, I thought he was cross checked at the base of the neck and Larkin was paralyzed. Thankfully, I was wrong and it appears that he will recover. Frightening on so many levels.

"this one from last season from Joseph." Joseph has been on the sens for 2 seasons now ....

Hope Larkin is ok. Perron needs to get a few games for that intent to injure. Defender was calling for help and totally defenceless.

Perron deserved the call and the hearing he'll have but Joseph should've got more than 2 for roughing just for targeting the Head, Kelly I'd like to believe was off balance coming in to clear the net front and didn't imo mean to tag Larkin in the head on his way down. Just my take

In comments people saying the retaliation was wrong, f that, if you played ice hockey you know you can’t let your boy go done like that, that’s a real friend/teammate right there bravo 👏

I don't think there was any intent to harm here. Scrums in front of the net get crazy. The hit high in the back should get called, and it did. I don't think Kelly was trying to hit in the head. He came in to hit in the chest, but the hit from behind knocked Larkin's head down into Kelly's hit. A couple of roughing calls later, and I think the refs actually got this one right in the end.

My legs were literally shaking when i realized larkin wasn't getting up

Was unfortunate, the cross check to the head after was shitty though.

I'm a Wings fan, I think they got it right. Kelly's contact looks totally accidental, but it was still to the head. Joseph's looks worse, but it's a loose puck scrum in front of the net, and he's trying to clear that area out. In the chaos, I don't think he hit Larkin where he meant to. Perron had more time to think about what he was doing and his hit was just as dangerous as anything Larkin could've been subjected to. Of course, for trying to assume the best about human beings playing a game, I'm getting roasted by Wings fans.

Larkin collapsed at a regular face off when playing Ottawa before, does he have an underlying health issue ?
  • @DoggosintheHouse
From the multiple replays, Joseph's hit really doesn't look that bad. It clearly isn't a cross-check because Joseph doesn't have both hands on his stick and the stick isn't the primary contact point. It looks like a rough shove in the face, but certainly not enough to leave someone unconscious. If I had to guess, I'd argue that it was probably Kelly coming in from the front and hitting him square on the jaw as Larkin was falling that actually knocked him cold. In either case, it doesn't look intentional. Scary-looking play, but at best a minor penalty. I think the refs got it right.

Perron must have thought he saw Kadri
  • @Ranalla651
I see Perron is still the same p.o.s. He was in St. Louis
  • @de_prest
What a dirty play by Perron no room for that in the game!
  • Doesn't seem like the first hit had anything to do with getting KOd. He took that right hand clean to the chin went out just like any fighter that would to a shot like that.
