US Military Nuclear Waste Cask Train Passes Through Lafayette, IN!

On May 2, 2024, I caught this nuclear waste train running through downtown Lafayette, IN. The train was carrying a single DODX (US Department of Defense) nuclear cask railcar. The nuclear material is housed in the large stainless steel cask with fins to radiate excess heat from the radioactivity. The train also has a specially equipped caboose for security purposes.

This was Norfolk Southern extra train 054 from Norfolk, VA to St. Louis, MO. I suspect it was carrying spent nuclear fuel from a US submarine or aircraft carrier, since there is a major overhaul facility for US Navy ships there.
