National security looks like a cheap excuse

Increased Tarifs on EVs and LFP batteries is a direct gift to big oil.

As one that took part of the FSD free month - I LOVED IT. Thought it was fantastic addition, really did a great job every time I used it. I didn’t buy it however cause my wife never used it and wouldn’t approve of a big purchase for the software. If we were doing a long road trip though I would get the monthly subscription and use it for the trip.

The USA is not the only car market in the world. There are plenty of countries happy to import Chinese cars.

My neighborhood in Las Vegas has 3 Cybertrucks already!

No surprise about the Cybertruck, it does still have 2 million reservations…

So the way we got automakers to warm up to hybrid is to start taking market share with EVs? Oh, well what ever works, at least that's something. I remember a LOT of talk about hybrids "not making sense" and "customers don't want them".
  • @Harrythehun
Let people buy their dream cars. If you dream about hybrids, it is at least better than a full ICE. But eventually the battery technology will become so fricking great and cheap that there will be few reasons to buy anything else.
  • @2pdlpwr
Hybrids are a great option for Toyota. They get to charge for all the gasoline engine repair parts and give you a 10 dollar battery for 54,000 dollars each! It's a great Idea! An electric car that needs an oil change and new filter. A typical 25 gallons of dirty cancer causing oil, is drained from hybrids over 100,000 miles of driving.. yuck!!
  • @anydaynow01
A lot of folks are picking up the R1S now, I thought it was weird they went with the R1T first when it's SUVs that sell in the "adventure" crowd.
  • @ltkwok
What do you know about the BYD Shark that just launched in Mexico? Looks pretty sweet.

We imposed tariffs on Japanese cars in the 80s. We did that because we were losing very badly in all aspect of car manufacturing. Now we imposing tariffs on Chinese cars and technologies. I'm scared to ask, but are we losing to Chinese technologies now?
  • @JohnPMiller
I knew Barra wouldn't impose a tariff on GM cars.
  • @AutoReport1
The rise in hundreds isn't so much because consumers want hybrids over EVs, but because the choice is often now only hybrids or EVs. Non hybrids are almost extinct at many automakers. Anybody not ready for an EV now has few other choices besides a hybrid, so of course growth is going to rocket.
  • @Miata822
The drumbeat headline often misses that EV sales are continuing to increase. It is great that OEMs and the public are suddenly open to PHEVs. It wasn't that long ago (Chevy Volt) that automakers, journalists, and the public had a hard time wrapping their head around the PHEV concept. Not only will PHEV sales get people familiar with the convenience and economy of plugging in, but the increased volume in electric component sales will ease supply chain challenges. Ultimately the increasing availability and acceptance of hybrid/PHEV vehicles will smooth the transition to an EV future.

I have owned FSD starting with my new Model X back in 2017. OMG April was a jurassic change. I own 5 teslas in my family. It’s a full level 3 with few interventions needed. I just moved to a new city. It is a game changer. You verbally state your destination or manually input this destination and you just end up there. Navigates through complicated parking lots and roundabouts.. on freeways it seems to anticipate some of these poor drivers that do erratic sudden changes. It is very expensive specially if you bought the less expensive model wire Y or 3. That’s a big chunk of change on a $50,000 car. Tesla will definitely be the first level 5 after huddles of legislation is figured out. Who has priority occupants in the car or pedestrian. Who has the liability once the car has level 5 especially if no one‘s driving the car capability. Even if we can prevent 50% less death that’s 20,000 people we save the year and that’s well worth it. Insurance Companies would sure love it. Plus your car would be a money making asset as a robotaxi

With all the hype about the "failure" of the Cybertruck, it still outsells Rivian. Next: Ford Lightning.
