Hi guys, want to thank everyone for all the views and amenable comments. If you like this format and enjoyed my opinion on STD then possibly you would enjoy chatting with me on other topics. Here Fyrside I talk about all topics under the sun, from TV and Entertainment to Police Shootings, to sexism and atheism! So, if you like that kind of back and forth and enjoy a more human format and experience then this is the place for you. Thanks!
  • Brilliant! You know I thought and felt all the exact same stuff, thought I was alone in that! Btw, I was part of the team who built the original Borg cube. STNG, routinely excepted unsolicited scripts. Cast and crew members often contributed in their own ways to a commitment to excellence. You never wanted to disappoint your fellow crew mates, cast, Production ,crew,fans- it all mattered to everybody! I like everything you said, you nailed this autopsy! I’m saddened by this sick substitute for not only Star Trek, but for good Sci-Fi? Please,!,,, they suck for killing Trek
  • Original Trek was Organic, STD is trying to teach the Audience what they should believe .

I am a die hard Star Trek fan. I only got to episode 2 of Discovery. I don't think they should have used the name Star Trek at all. Call it something else. Big disappointment!
  • Spot on. I got as far as episode 8 before I cancelled my subscription and bailed. And if you think about it, there were always crap episodes in the old shows, especially first season TNG -- but even when the story sucked, you still liked the characters because you could understand them and they were consistent. In this show, not only are these characters completely and thoroughly unlikeable, but they barely qualify as characters in the first place -- their values and traits don't have any continuity from one episode to the next. The one exception is Captain Lorca (the only straight white male), who is just a thoroughly vile human being and I think is actually meant to be unlikeable.

They did not put a gay couple, they did not make a lead woman in command, they did not come up with the spore drive. CBS STOLE and PLAGIARIZED all their ideas from a 2014 indie game called Tardigrades https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/11/08/a-tale-of-two-tardigrades/ and here's the developer's post http://anas-tronaut.blogspot.com/2017/10/star-trek-discovery-tardigrades.html
  • My problem: They have made a star trek show to appeal to people who do not like star trek. It also genuinely feels like they are purposely stomping on the heritage of star trek as a means of reinventing the franchise as an action/adventure show dependent upon shocking plot twist to engage the viewer. Star Trek is a special franchise for many reasons but a few of the foundational reasons are as follows: Challenging stories that have moral and ethical dilemma's, Compelling characters that connect with the viewer, a genuine sense of loyalty/friendship within the crew. The writers of this show have displayed that they do have actual knowledge of the franchise (Mudd / References) so I am truly puzzled how they could get the feeling of star trek so incredibly wrong. When half the viewers believe that the show is spitting in the face of the franchise you have a major problem.

I only have one word for this and it’s BRILLIANT 👍🏻

I think the new Star Trek movies just betray the actual philosophy of Star Trek with blowing stuff up every movie. Star Trek was about the peaceful exploration of space by different species working together. The first new Star Trek was pretty good but it gets to be a worn out plot when they're blowing up spaceships in the other two movies. I've not watched any of Star Trek Discovery only the first episode. Personally I didn't like what they made the Klingons look like.

You definitely should give Enterprise another shot. The show in my opinion definitely gets better and they “fix” the Vulcans in a season 4 three part episode arc. LLAP 🖖🏻
  • Yeah it is a bunch of pandering virtue signaling, the fans of this show who defend it to the death usually shit all over Kirk and Picard. They have a target audience, it isn't an inclusive show it's not original it isn't thought provoking it's just a cash grab, disagree with your thoughts on Enterprise the first season was a train wreck but it defiantly got alot better after season 2. T'Pol's father was also a Romulen they never got a chance to explore the angle because they got cancelled

Hard to tell if your mad at Star Trek or perhaps just mad that there is a prominent gay couple in the show. Seeing as you seem to end most of your pointless rants with "God bless" I'm gonna assume your just mad cause of the gay couple. But hey, to each there own.
