For those of us that have not worked with it before the spiky exterior and rich scent of the durian fruit can make it seem like a bit of an intimidating fruit to work with at first glance. In this how to installment, cookbook author and owner of Saffron Restaurant, Su-Mei Yu shows us how to properly cut and prepare this fascinating and delicious tropical fruit.

Hands down one of the best tasting fruits on earth. I'm so happy my parents fed me this as a kid because it made me have a soft spot for it. Plenty of people complain about its smell but I think it smells sweet. Probably one of the pros of having good parents feed this to be as a kid. Its very expensive for a good reason. Personally it's best served cold. You come home from a long day of work or school and have this for desert. Thanks for showing how to pry it open

Finally someone that really knows how to open a durian! You, are really GORGEOUS!!!😄😄😄 Most of the people I see on Youtube, they open up a durian by slicing it with a really sharp knife. And they slice through everything including the flesh and the seed.😂

It tastes good when its half ripe half raw. Not smelly. It just smells bad when its overripened. I studied about this plant. Durian is a sort of hurb. It can reduce the inflammation

This is the worst durian ever. It looks hard and dried when it should be soft and creaming and full of flavor.
