This is the true story of how flip resets evolved in Rocket League. A cinematic Rocket League documentary for the purpose of appreciating the complexity of this beautiful game that is Rocket League. So many hours go into the making of these documentary videos and this one in particular I put even more effort into than normal. Enjoy!

The flip reset is known by many professional players to be the hardest base mechanic in Rocket League. It took more than 2 years from when it was officially possible in the game for it to be pulled off in the pro scene for the first time. As soon as it reached that level, it quickly worked its way to becoming an essential mechanic in the RLCS. Scoring a flip reset in the RLCS is one of the most difficult things to do. Against the best defenders in the world, it’s hard to find anything that can get by them. But the flip reset is one of the most effective tools used to score even against the best in the world. This is the story of how they came to be. From just an idea someone had on reddit, to a beautiful and deadly mechanic being pulled off by the best in the world, this is the story of how flip resets evolved in Rocket League.

As you can imagine, these types of videos take an incredibly long time to make. If you enjoyed, it would mean so much if you could consider subscribing or sharing with someone else you think might enjoy it too.

Bro I just realized I own the alpha wheels of the player with the first documented flip rest...Fyshokid!

Seeing the Rocket Labs patch gave me such nostalgia

I never knew it but I was waiting for this kind of RL content. Mechanics and they way they are used have changed, evolved, been innovated etc. over the course of RL's lifespan. Cool to see a video reflecting on this for one of the most iconic mechs in the game.

Long live the Flip Restore! Great video man, you can see how much work went into this!
  • It feels so incredible to even be a minuscule part of this story. Props to Wayton for digging so deep to research on this one! Great video

Just finished. Wow. The amount of work that went into this is so evident, you had me totally engaged all the way through. Very very well done sir.
  • That was amazing. I’m already subscribed but if I wasn’t, I would right now. Thank you for putting so much effort into this.

Hey Wayton, beautiful video. Very well edited & informational. However, for these types of videos a timeline in terms of month/year would be a lot easier to follow than "RLCS season XX" for the more casual audience such as myself. I'm not sure when all of those seasons started/ended, so it's hard to establish a timeline. & prior to any of the RLCS seasons mentioned it was hard to realize how slow/fast everything was evolving since no dates were mentioned. I might suggest in future videos of a similar genre to show the month/year in the corner for every new event discussed. Thanks for the content!

Zen… where he is now is crazy

Lovely video! Always good to get a reminder of how long it took until it was in RLCS. From the back of my mind I would of thought it was much earlier. Granted Deevo did a flip reset at Season 3 LAN (June 2017) but he was always the outlier. Fysho also always a legend. I remember when he posted on twitter about how he finally hit one in-game.

Just adds to my love of the game- just a quirky "this will probably change nothing" edit to the gameplay turns into one of the most useful high-level mechanics

🤩 HOLY SHIT, CHILLS THE ENTIRE VIDEO!!! 🐐 I'm playing Rocket League since 2015 and watching this video felt nostalgic and like watching a child grow up or some shit idk how to describe, simply incredible. 🙏 Thank you Wayton!

Wayton, this is undoubtedly your best video of all time. The time and effort you spent putting into this is unimaginable. The teaser was no joke; this was a masterpiece, and I look forward to more similar to this in the near future. Thank you so much for putting so much effort into satisfying us, you completely overachieved! <3
