Cab Ride on The Via Rail Canadian

Published 2023-11-25
Sometimes in life you get to do something amazing, and this was the case in this video. In terms of things that I will never be able to do again, this is certainly one of them. I cannot speak on many details of this video, however here is a carbide on Via Rails famous train "The Canadian" as we head east through the Canadian Shield.

What a once in a lifetime opportunity! Thanks for sharing it with us!
  • Years ago, I worked at VIA on a job placement and got a few cab rides; I even got to start up the locomotives. Not many can say that, let alone a cab ride.

I rode in the cab of the Canadian between Dryden and Thunder Bay when it was owned by Canadian Pacific . The locomotive was an F9 I believe. The ride was very firm and uncomfortable. It felt like riding in a car with no shocks or no suspention. I had a sore back at the end of the ride.
  • Great Video. This is Via #2 departing Hornepayne, Ontario, Canada and travelling east bound over the CN Ruel Sub. Thanks for sharing!

Talk about the right place at the right time. Thanks for sharing. Great guys on that route. In case others are curious for a bit of visual context, here's a drone perspective of the same train, different day and consist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95D5WhwPjz4
