Crocodiles Bite The Face Off Zebra While Crossing Mara River on a Safari in Kenya

Recently, I was on a Safari at Masai Mara National Park in Kenya this year for the “Great Wildebeest Migration”. Every year during the season of the Great Migration the zebras must take the risk of crossing many rivers in order to get to the grass that they badly need in order to survive. If the zebras do not get to their source of food they may perish. Sometimes, after crossing a river full of hungry crocodiles, the zebras do not find good grass on the other side. Then they will turn around and go back through the same river to face the vicious crocodiles all over again. My Safari guide was a local I met named Jonathan Lenjir. Jonathan was such an amazing guide. He is a Masai Warrior from the Masai tribe in Kenya.
My great joy in life is travel and sharing my travel experiences with others - the good and the bad. If you look at my videos you can see that I try to show extraordinary and beautiful things, even in harsh conditions. I originally posted this video, in particular, because it shows the amazing and strong will of the animals of Masai Mara National Reserve to live, something many of the viewers picked up on.
I did feel very bad for the suffering that the zebra went through. It was very difficult to watch and witness in person. In no way do I wish to disrespect this zebra by showing the fight. She was so very strong, she fought against 4 crocodiles and was still standing. I will never forget how hard this zebra fought for her life and did not give up easily. It makes me feel an even greater respect for life and all living things. Life is so fragile and precious. This happens every day in the wild where no one can see the intense struggle to live that goes on.
One viewer called the zebra in this video "Zebra-heart," like Brave-heart. That's exactly what I was trying to show! Masai Mara National Reserve, like many of the wild places left in this world, is beautiful and harsh - just like life.

It was hard to watch the zebra fight and do nothing. However there was no way I could have tried to save the Zebra from her death. The Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya does not permit interference and no guns are permitted into the park.

In this zebra attack videos you can see that 4 zebras do actually turn around to try to help the zebra who is being attacked by the crocodiles. The 4 zebras stomp in the shallow water in order to try to scare the crocodiles away. They are not successful but at least they tried to help their fellow zebra from being eaten alive by crocodiles

The local African guide in this video that I used was a tribal man named Johnathan Lenjir. Jonathan took me to see this amazing zebra attack by crocodiles. www.facebook.com/jonathan.lenjir.5 Johnathan is a Maasai Warrior from the Maasai tribe in Kenya. Johnathan Lenjir would be happy to take you on this very same safari in Africa. This type of Safari is called a "Game Drive". He is very affordable.    • Jonathan serving breakfast with giraf...

  • That zebra was a legend it took 5 of them to take it down what a beast died fighting till the end rip

I know it’s part of life and the crocs have to survive but damn that last part was tough to watch. That zebra was missing most of its face!
  • @Dr_Adam
There have been many comments suggesting a bridge be built for the zebras to cross the river I understand your sympathy for the zebra.  However, the other side of the river is the country of Tanzania.  So, it would have to be an international bridge.  Also, the Masai Mara wildlife park is trying to stay as natural as possible without creating man-made structures such as bridges.  In addition, there are many other rivers the zebras must cross to get to their food source. Should there be bridges built everywhere for the zebras to use?  Kenya is a 3rd world county with many other issues that should take priority over building bridges for zebras. Crocodiles can lay and wait on bridges too. Also, if the crocodiles all starve and die it will throw off the balance of nature. I know people believe zebras are cute and most people don't find crocodiles to be beautiful.   That doesn't mean that crocodiles are evil and zebras are good.   Thank you for watching

The last zebra deseved huge respect... RIP dude you died a warrior. Fought till the last breath. I aspire to be like you.

The fact half the face was ripped off that Zebra and it was still gathering all it's strength to try and make it out. Fucking crazy shit. Animals are crazy when stuff like this happens their brain doesn't say anything but "survive" even if it means going through the most brutal torture ever.
  • This makes me even more thankful that I’m human and not one of them. I wouldn’t want to die like that. Looks agonizing

The fact that our ancestors not only survived but thrived in the most dangerous continent is incredible. I mean there's bigger, faster and stronger predators literally everywhere.
  • @Tuririupikon
The thing is, when you realize that the zebra was getting its skin ripped off slowly, and it was pinched by the crocodile, imagine the pain it wouldve gone trhough, poor thing.
  • That zebra definitely deserves all respect in the world. What a tough fighter. R.I.P.
  • @kabuginjimu8573
I got emotional on that part where that Zebra could no longer fight and it just stood there with half its face missing...and at its final moments it accepted its fate and disappered into the waters...what a painful moment.
  • That last poor little zebra absolutely fought his heart out until there was nothing left. Even after his face was torn off, he still fought. Much respect little guy..R.I.P.
  • That zebra actually tried to fight really hard to break free. You can tell he was in a lot of pain.He just stood there with his jaw ripped open. His energy and will to survive quickly diminished adter that. I know this is nature, but it was hard to watch because that looked so agonizing.
  • @drKeijzer
This video is a realistic portrayal of nature. No added fancy music, no deathly strike in every second of the video. That makes this a good video. That said, those poor zebra's really suffer a lot before they die, so this is not a video for soft hearted people.
  • @Dr_Adam
Fun Fact: Did you know that crocodiles can go for several months without eating? In extreme cases, they can go 3 years without eating anything! They conserve their energy by staying motionless or moving slow.
  • @djl5424
Is it natural? Yes. Is it hard to watch? Yes. The two aren't mutually exclusive.
