The Mismatched Paradox of Emotions

If I told you, that anger is more valuable than happiness, what would you say?
If I said fearing something is better than wanting something, you’d probably be equally as startled right?
I get why most people would disagree
A general belief people have is that the point of life is to pursue happiness, and while i don’t believe this to be completely wrong, I don’t exactly agree with it either

Emotions have a practical application, there’s no doubt about that
Lions, monkeys, giraffes, and even bumblebees have all been documented to showcase positive and negative emotions

And the evolutionary origins of emotion while not entirely clear, are commonly thought to be rooted in adaptive functioning

Specifically by inducing coordinated responses

Darwin was the first to propose the universality of emotions, specifically by observing how similar facial expressions were among humans, regardless of ethnicity, or cultural upbringing

So today I wanted to Build on this idea and showcase how we should be using our negative emotions, and for what purposes

I've seen lots of people talk about how fear can be usedbefore but extending it to other emotions like anger is awesome
  • Curiosity as a counterweight to anxiety is actually a really good idea and it makes a lot of sense

Been subbed for a couple months now. It’s always crazy to come across these sorts of small channels that will be very popular someday. It’s just something you know when you see it. Great stuff, brother.
  • @AjoloteSouls
If I had neuralink I some how remember writing.
  • Great video! The music change when you started talking about anger was epic lol

I continue to love your channel here dude! It is hard to stress enough, at least IMO, how alternative perspectives on human emotions can help people build a more complete picture of themselves and how to fit themselves into the world. Also, thanks for the ADHD/Autism vids man, they felt personally validating for my hyper-active-yet-autistic self :) My therapist even compliments your channel by noting the quality of content I prefer to watch, and specifically liked your 'dopamine detox doesn't work' ('content addiction' originally I think) vid. Have a good one.

Anxiety, fear, anger, etc. all harm us, physiologically. Even if given a positive outlet. It's normal but if it's the only tool in your toolbox (it's not) you will eventually run out of goals to chase or get burned out from excess of emotion. The latter typically occurs. Happiness is no better, especially excess thereof. Many heinous crimes have been perpetrated because someone was entirely too happy to pay mind to what was happening to another person. Usually their victim. Balance where it be broooo

I bet our imagination evolved as in beneficial response to constant, changing fears. It's almost like an amplifier. It's way more advantageous to be able to fear things if you can fear them ahead of time. Maybe anxiety developed this way, too. I could imagine these traits being just useful enough to be passed down and refined over generations, but originally stemming from fear.

I think given how our intuition evolved for the wild, our intuition can be very wrong about what can improve our lives in our current environment, such as our intuition telling us that creating an environment, for which we need to sit to get work done would improve our lives.

i think you have a great take on the dance that the different facets of tthe self interact but i have some perspectives i would like you to consider i dont want to just dump my opinion ,if a conversation isnt invited
