It's the most terrifying mid-air emergency in Australian aviation history - flight QF72's autopilot tried to kill all 315 people on board. They were only saved by the quick thinking of Captain Kevin Sullivan - so why has Qantas refused to give him and the crew the recognition they deserve? And why were the warning signs from QF72 not heeded by other airlines? Please don’t forget to sign Fuzzy’s petition at www.change.org/p/qantas-forgotten-heroes-of-qantas…

I was a passenger on this flight from hell. It feels surreal to see myself in the resurfaced video from close to 11 years ago. I was the guy in the white shirt who stood on the right of Captain Sullivan, listening to him attentively while he tried to explain our predicament on a megaphone. I want to take this opportunity to thank this unsung hero, Captain Kevin Sullivan. Without him, my life would have been cut short nearly 11 years ago. Thank You SIR! SALUTE!

He was handed a faulty plane - and landed with 315 souls going home to their families - Give him recognition Quantus!
  • 13 million views...outstanding! On behalf of my pilots, cabin crew and passengers we thank you for your continued interest and support. Bravo Zulu!

That fuzzy didn’t get any support from the airline breaks my heart. He has such a big heart and suffered a lot from that accident. That’s unbelievable. Everyone that helped others as well as the pilots are true hero’s. I’m so sorry for everyone who had to experience that.

This man was feeling guilty, he saved the entire plane, he is a hero, I wish he got the thank you he deserved

The pilot is not to blame. He's the reason they're alive.

As a Qantas frequent flyer, I am honestly reconsidering flying with my favourite airline again because of the treatment Fuzzy received.
  • I adore Fuzzy! How could Quantas treat him so poorly? Yet, he's unwilling to say anything bad about them? He's a hero, too, in my book. He's the epitome of humbleness and forgiveness. I hope he's receiving the help he most definitely deserves!
  • Thank you all for your supportive comments towards the crew of QF72. It was a science fiction scenario that became a reality; confused computers using automation to harm rather than protect our aircraft, crew and passengers. I see there are many technical questions here and I recommend you read the book I have written on this flight entitled, "No Man's Land". I talk in depth about the flight, what went wrong, what went right, the heroic actions of the passengers and crew, and the investigation into the causes of the accident. I was hoping that our event would be the last accident involving bad automation, but the recent 737 MAX accidents have indicated that we have a long way to go. Sadly, there are many similarities in these tragic aviation events. Thank you for your continued support. Captain Sullivan

The pilot blaming himself that people got hurt made me tear up, he saved so many lives, he’s a hero, I wish he can find peace with it one day
  • Kevin you showed incredible resiliance and strength throughout this incident. You were a hero that day.

This 7NEWS recreation has surpassed 14 million views. A significant aircraft accident that was kept quiet when it happened on 7 October 2008. As we approach the 15 year anniversary, I want to thank all the YouTube viewers for supporting the passengers and crew that survived the science fiction scenario of flight QF72. This is an important story for our present, and future, as more automated systems and vehicles are produced and intergrated into societies around the world. Thank you all!

Fuzzy having depression and suffering unimaginable pain yet he's fighting for Kevin Sullivan's recognition. This man is an angel!
  • Dear Kevin Sullivan: You may feel the guilt from the injuries that the passengers on your flight incurred...but they were not your fault. The plane's actions were beyond your control. Without your efforts that day, no one would have survived. You fought like hell for your passengers and you landed that plane against all odds. I salute you, good sir.
  • Had it not been for Kevin Sullivan, no one would have survived. Sir, you are simply great and outstanding. You saved more than 300 lives which is just amazing❤❤❤
  • Wow, all Fuzzy had been through and still, he didn’t criticise the airline he had worked for and loved. What a true gentleman and professional. He kept his dignity for him, his colleagues and his passengers! Amazing guy. ❤ Captain was a true hero. Brilliant story.
  • @etrebelle9812
You SAVED a hundred lives and you feel bad looking at the people being wounded????? You broght them all home alive!!!
  • @dotesondots
Dear Captain Sullivan, when you stated that the people were looking at you as if to say, "Look what you did to our children," they were in shock and I am positive that they were looking at you in awe that you were able to land the plane safely. The computer failure was not your fault, your incredible skills and experience in flying is how you rescued everyone on board. I have the highest respect for you and your co-workers who despite the odds, landed the plane safely. You do deserve the Australian Civilian Medal of Valor. Also the fact that you were a fighter jet pilot makes me respect you even more. I was a hospital corpsman in the Navy so I salute you, Captain Sullivan.
