I've never been on a cruise ship but the architecture and different venues are obvious attractions to taking one. The downside is a greater population due to the larger ship's capacity.

Why do we need to keep making more and more and more of these colossal ships?
Because we can.
Because it is profitable.
Because people enjoy them and return every year because of the whole "Cruise Experience".
Apparently you have never experienced the pleasure of a cruise ship.
"Come to the dark side!" or rather "The light and breezy side." of life!
There is no other vacation like it!

Poor Lil Disney ship with it's kid-diddling music horns.

My neighbor said Disney Wish and Fantasy were the worst cruise ships of the 11 that he and his family has been on and by the 2nd day they all were already bored. He said the Royal Caribbean ships are by far the best and most entertaining.
