In 1961, I was one year old and my mom bought a new 1961 Gibson LG-2 parlor sized guitar as a 2nd anniversary gift for my dad. It was the first guitar I ever saw, touched, and heard played in person. I grew up with it in our house. I never took an interest in learning to play it. After I moved away from home in 1983, I began learning to play guitar. My dad really didn't play his Gibson very often at this point in his life, and he didn't take care of it very well. I told my parents that when the time came, that I wanted my dad's guitar. I really wanted it for sentimental reasons, since the action was really high, it was really dusty inside the sound hole, and just didn't look or play very good. My dad passed away in 2017, and I brought the guitar back to my house and put it in a closet for about 6 months. I mentioned it to a friend of mine who is a very good guitar player, and he wanted to see it. I let him take it home with him and he cleaned it up a little and adjusted the truss rod. Then he told me what he thought it was worth and I was shocked. It was worth 10x what I would have guessed. Knowing this, I decided to take it to a top-notch luthier to get it playing as good as could be expected. When I picked it up and played it, all the sudden it was no longer just a keepsake, it was also a treasured instrument. I have a few other guitars as well, but the Gibson gets played at least a few days every month. Anyway, I like that I have the guitar that I've known longer than any other guitar and I can still play it 62 years after my mom bought it for my dad.

I love it that a child "broke in" that guitar. Such a human story, playing with joy from generation to generation and the guitar can tell each story in its own way. A guitar is something that should inspire...the player. Glad you found what works for you.
  • @terrywright7893
Totally understand your joy of an instrument that really speaks to your soul. It’s a wonderful thing to find a guitar (after you’ve played SO many) that excels in every department. Congratulations, and may you live together happily ever after!

Got the first ding on my Collings OM2HT while playing on the sofa while my beloved dog was peacefully sleeping next to me. She had a startle during a dream and gave the guitar a little kick. She's getting older now and in a way I cherish that little ding as it reminds me of her. Your new guitar is perfect.

Paul, this was very moving for me. I got my Collings D2SB in 2000 thanks to my wife who encouraged me to go for it. She's been gone 20 years now and that instrument is not "just a guitar" as I suspect yours won't be either. All these years later I look at the scar that my young son put on the top and remember how I told him it was OK, don't cry, it will always remind me of how much more you mean to me than this guitar. I hope your Collings brings you a lifetime of joy and memories.

Your love, your enthusiasm, and your crazy wild teaching is infectious! THANK YOU!
  • @RC32Smiths01
Congrats Paul. Truly deserving of it. The black and orange hues are beautiful, as is its sounds. What a great way of preserving and paying tribute to a clean and honest model.
  • @CultureCrusader
I've been playing 40 years, I've followed you about 10 years, and literally EVERY aspect of this guitar looks as sounds 10/10. I don't think you can get any better, literally.

Paul, this is why me and so many others fall in love with guitar. It's the beauty and experience of these magical gifts. Keep spreading the joy and enjoy this beautiful guitar!! Pearson Handlin (Ridgway, CO)

I once read someone say in a Facebook Gear Group that the quality of your music gear sets the upper limit, but your talent still has to get it there. Your talent, Paul, is much closer to that guitar's upper limit than mine. Happy to hear you play it. And, congratulations on the new baby!
  • @TWC6724
Congratulations. Sounds amazing. Now we need Paul David’s new instrumental album written with this guitar.
  • @ReapZ1373
I’ve never actually teared up while listening to music before but my god… Amber’s Embrace is just so beautiful I couldn’t help it. Congratulations on the guitar and the baby ❤

I can only imagine Little Paul, all grown up, grabbing this guitar knowing it came from the legend that its his father, to another legend. So many love and stories

It looks sick man. The burst color looks beautiful. The fretboard inlays are so classy.
  • @johnnyb3939
Beautiful tone, balance, and bling. A masterpiece from Collins.
  • @BradMaestas
I have a Santa Cruz 00-12 that I absolutely love for all the same reasons. Incredible couch guitar and songwriting muse, and it records beautifully. Bravo!
