The U.S. Surgeon General is calling for warning labels on social media, the same way we have them for alcohol and tobacco. The goal is to alert parents that using the platforms can be harmful for an adolescent's mental health.

He's right. I would go so far as to put an age limit on it.
  • About time, the entire population is hopelessly addicted to it. 21+ like alcohol

social media should be age restricted. a child has no business even being on isntagram, twitter, or facebook etc. period.

I completely agree with this! "You haven't shown the technology to be safe, you've only shown that you have not yet figured out how its dangerous." -I forgot where I heard that once.

YT is all I’ve been using the last few months & even then, I could stand to be on it less.
  • LOL 😂, the cat is already out of the hat. Its a little too late. The youngsters couldn't live without their cellphones and social media now.

The people saying oh just age restrict it…Like that works so well with adult movie sites and video games for mature or adults only. You people just need to tell your kids no and then when they disregard your authority you take their devices away. Be a parent not a complainer.

This is a band aid at best. Just like warning labels on cigarette packages hasn’t turned smokers off, neither will it on social media.
  • This is not a surgeon general issue. This is a parenting issue. If they're on it for very long, it's cause the parents allowed it. Comparing the need to have a warning on social media akin to cigarettes and liquor is stupid. If it did have a warning it should be like the toys with small pieces that can cause chocking hazards.

It's not the same as alcohol & tobacco bc you have to be a legal adult to buy either. It's nice they're finally taking steps to protect kids- but they should've never been allowed on SM. If you wouldn't allow your kid to roam alone in a city then don't allow SM access.
