How does the United States have far fewer Coronavirus cases than Iran?

The US has way more flights to and from china. Way more US citizens living in china, way more Chinese people visiting the US than Chinese tourists visit Iran.

How is it possible that the corona-virus is so much more deadly in Iran?
Government officials in both Iran and the US are telling people they have the situation under control, though I feel as if these governments are afraid of people panicking and the stock market crashing.

Is any country doing enough to prevent and fight this virus other than media control and disinformation?
