Ranking the BEST Starter Pokemon in Competitive Singles/Draft

Published 2024-05-15
We are ranking all of the Pokemon Starters based on how good they are in Competitive Singles as well as Draft. I struggled a bit at the beginning with the music at the start but it gets better trust.

I may not know much about competitive Pokemon but this was still great to watch. Nice to see you branch out.

I can't believe Manner replaced me, unforgivable. This is worse than the time when he said boss rush was good design.

Not a bad list at all I'd say. It's refreshing to see a ranking that isn't completely determined by smogon tier ladder placements or previous comp history. As much as I hate to give this pokémon credit, I personally think Rillaboom may be the overall best starter if you don't take megas into account, even over Cinderace and H. Samurott. Terrains are incredibly invaluable to sway the overall flow of a battle. Grassy Glide may have been nerfed, but with the STAB, terastalize, along with the boost the terrain gives, Rillaboom straight up has free priority damage with no set up required. That is not to mention the absolute arsenal the gorilla has to cover rolls the other starters have as well such as knock off and pivot uturn. Not to mention, Rillaboom is an anti-blastoise repellant thanks to the sheer strength he's got in priority grassy glide. Pretty much the only thing holding Rillaboom back is his mono grass typing, which isn't really an issue if you can just terra. It's unfortunate to see my boi Decidueye really underperform in the competitive space. It would be really nice if they actually gave him speed to take advantage of his good movepool and stats.
