After months of planning, the tallest structure at the DOE Paducah Site came down in just seconds. The approximately 300-foot high C-611-R High Pressure Fire Water Tower was safely brought to the ground on Friday, May 31, 2024 under a controlled demolition. The demolition will bring a noticeable skyline change to the DOE Paducah Site. The water tower was taken out of service when the DOE Paducah Site transitioned to its fire suppression systems to a dry-hybrid system.

The Portsmouth/Paducah Project Office (PPPO) manages the DOE cleanup efforts at two former gaseous diffusion plants – Portsmouth (Piketon), Ohio, and Paducah, Kentucky. The PPPO mission is to accomplish Environmental Remediation, Waste Management, Depleted Uranium Hexafluoride (DUF6) Conversion, and Decontamination and Decommissioning at the Sites.
