** please note: when speaking I mixed up the terms "viscosity" and "pigment". Viscosity means how thick the paint is and pigment means how much of the color, or pigment is in the paint. **

In this video I'll walk you through detailed steps for how I like to mix my dutch pour paints. My basic ratio is 2 parts American Flood Floetrol, 1 part paint, and water to thin. I'll show you how I measure...or don't measure...my pouring medium to paint ratio, how I mix and how I determine when the paints are the right consistency to achieve a gorgeous dutch pour painting. I'll also show you how to determine how much paint and water to add for different brands and different thicknesses of paints. Stay until the end to see how I test my mixed paints using the drip test and what to do if they don't match.

I hope you find this video helpful. Please let me know if you have any further questions by dropping them in the comments section below.

  • One of the best tutorials I've seen for mixing paint - and I've seen quite a few over the last couple of years! Very helpful and informative and explained in a manner that is simple and easy. Only thing is it's a little bit hard to see your measuring clearly with the background being white but with your explanations it didn't matter too much. Thank you Becca 😊😊
  • That tip at the end where you compare both fluids side by side is a great tip! Thank you.

Strainer on the bottle opening. Brilliant, only a few weeks in the game and never considered that. Thanks!

This is all me! I'm here for the technical stuff. I feel it's so important and no one ever goes over it. Ever. I own a spa and constantly find that everyone that has been in any field for a long time was never taught the why of everything. It's so important. Ty

  • Thank you, Becca. Your instructions are so understandable. I don’t like to measure, either. You’re a rock star!
