In this video, we break down the biggest news of the NHL off-season & how the Tampa Bay Lightning seemingly 'disrespected' their long time captain Steven Stamkos. Let's take a deeper look as to how this affects both teams on & off the ice...while potentially changing the way NHL teams construct their roster in the future.

  • I can tell you as a life long Lightning fan that Stamkos will be dearly missed. I don't think bringing in Jake Guentzel replaces what Stamkos has meant to the fans and organization as a whole.

Saros: "I want to know we can compete before I re-sign. " Trotz: "Say no more, Juice. "

His defensive play with Hagel and Cirelli is especially of note, since those two are an absolute nightmare to play against while they're on the PK. Tampa was already one of the older teams in the league, not to mention they had an abysmal defensive end. Adding Guentzel in exchange for Stamkos, while it may hurt, could end up being just what the Bolts and Preds both need to elevate their teams to the next level. Where Stamkos' presence will be missed most is definitely in the locker room.

Can’t imagine the lightning without Stammer
  • This channel is the best hockey channel on YouTube now. Your ability to create something year-round, in-depth, is incredible.

I commented on the video about Nashville getting embarrassed and going on the u2 run. I mentioned the cap space we would have and boy am I happy with what we paid for. We got exactly what we needed on paper.
  • Can you make season recaps and preseason video breakdowns of each team? As a huge newer hockey fan that wants to learn the most about the game, I think it would be awesome with your style of story telling/breakdown analysis

As a Preds fan, I’m so excited to see so much coverage on the team. Can’t wait for the season to start! (Love your breakdowns of games/systems!)

As a Lightning fan whose favorite player is Stamkos, I am still pretty salty over him getting released. I wish he does great in Nashville.
  • You make a very good point here - it is a lot about respect and I guess Stamer will do ANYTHING to show them wrong! What do teams that put "success" above all and make day trader decisions end up with? A group of players who are day traders themselves. The players know their heads will be on the chopping block whenever the GM feels like. This doesn't support loyalty from the players to the team and once the NHL figures out the LTIR situation, then Tampa and Vegas will not produce as much as a balanced team with a culture of trust and respect. Because in a close game 7 it is not about what you got left in your tank - it is what you got in your heart in the first place...

Offering Stamkos $3m a year when the market was offering $8m is beyond insulting. Stamkos should be viewed on the same level as Yzerman, Sakic, Bourque. He should have been retained. I am sure his price was a lot lower than $8m to stay in Tampa.
  • I said it was a bad sign when 2023-24 started and BriseBois said Tampa wanted to wait to see how the team's salary situation shook out before they started talking contract. No, if they REALLY wanted to keep Stamkos, they would have signed him then and worked around the obstacles. Not offer him $3m/year after he scores 40/40.

I'm very, very glad for Josi and his Preds to get Stamkos. But for Tampa, letting him go is pure lunacy!

I'd expect Tampa to move Point to Stamkos' spot on the PP and put Guentzel in the slot area instead, but guess we'll find out. Very excited about the Preds' additions! If they were to become a juggernaut and a perennial contender... and win their first Cup before long, that would be damn brilliant! Luke Evangelista lifting the Cup would be the 'cat's meow'!

Great analysis HP, as usual. I'm a Panthers fan, but as a Floridian and a Stamkos fan, I otherwise root for the Bolts. Stamkos is an incredibly player, leader, and captain and he has definitely been the heart and face of the Tampa Bay Lightning team. Yes, an NHL franchise is a business but that's not all it is. The owner and GM's offer to Stamkos was disloyal and disrespectful and I hope they come to regret that decision when the fan backlash hurts their bottom line.

HP upload = 5 beers and 5 more beers and 5 more beers to celebrate 🥂
  • Beautiful piece on Stamkos there. Keeep these coming. Nobody does these stories as well as you. Cheers!
