THAT was a great punchline. Now I want to do the same with my own life to find the answer.
  • This has been my problem! Is "from" where you were born, where you've been the longest, where you family is from, where your name is most known, where you lived where your own heart identifies the most? One must be chosen, I suppose!
  • @300lbcanary2
One of the best examples of working with Engineers!
  • I do this stupid tap dance of “well i grew up primarily in x, spent summers split between w, y, and z, and my family is from …. By this point the potential conversation partner has walked away. I get it humans, i get it. Now i answer with the location that has the most deadly, strange or other fantastic reputation. I go for a little shock and awe. I almost always end up saying Texas.

Thank you Don. I have not laughed like this for a while. Truly a master in your craft.

I get the accuracy thing. I find it hard to answer questions sometimes, due to trying to be accurate. I've been told "ballpark dude. Ballpark." Oh now I can be more vague.
  • @Jazehiah
This is why I ask people where they call "home."

Even if not so funny I still laugh for some reason! OK maybe because of his memic...such a iconic old figure

It gets really interesting when you've spent many years in foreign countries.

This is why, when talking to someone about them, you should ask only the questions whose answers you really need to know.

I go through Wakeeney a couple times a month. Nice truckstop there on the south side of town!

I've moved around a lot in my life, but never very far, so I can basically say I'm from New England as long as I'm not actually in New England when I'm asked. In New England, the expectation of the answer actually varies by state; some want to know where I live now, some where I'm a native of. This has the funny result of it being most "accurate" for me to say I'm from Rhode Island if I'm in Massachusetts, and vice versa.

This is a good illustration of central tendency. In this case, mode is likely the best choice because the mean is not sound.

You're moving slower than the wagon train!

Moves to a different continent. Becomes fish sometime in the future.
