I pay for game pass for the games. I can care less about online multiplayer. It is a weird double standard that developers provide free servers for pc yet dont for console. Imo Sony and Microsoft should at the least provide free multiplayer for first party titles
  • @slimlester8644
It will never have any better value because these services used to be free and were expected to stay that way.

Having these huge libraries is pointless if you're not gonna be playing lots of them consistently. 90%+ of these catalogs I would not touch just by being indifferent about them. I'd rather buy the specific games I want than pay a constant subscription to maybe play a few games off the entire list.

I miss the good days where you just put the disc/cartridge in the console and i just played the game. No downloads, no DLC, no yearly fees. Just hours of fun.
  • @QuickNETTech
It was never worth it, one of the things that pushed me to PC during the PS4/XB1 generation alongside games running at 900p dropping to 20fps all the time. You're entirely correct to call this a scam.

I’m not subscribed to anything now but as a former Gamepass member and former PS Plus Essentials member, my fav is actually PS Plus Essentials. Thsts cause the 2 games added each month on PS Plus was actually a good pace to catch up to. Gamepass is too overwhelming. There was a period of 3 months in which I was only playing Persona 5. In those 3 months Gamepass felt like such a waste of money cause I was just playing one game. But when PS Plus prices went up, it became too expensive So my main gaming method is still to pay and own games (physical copies preferred) and not be on any subscription models. But thats just me personally

I say no subscription models are really worth it. I want something tangible for the money I spent. Not to pay for an experience, and then have access taken away once my money dries up, or even worse, have access taken away for no good reason.
  • Ironic that you are ignoring plenty of the negatives of NSO: - Online multiplayer used to be FREE until now - The online methods Nintendo use are ancient, not always stable and is ripe for people to cheat - The NES, SNES and other retro games used to be purchasable (not streamed) for under $10 on “Virtual Console” for Wii and Wii U - They let you back up save data onto USB drives before the Switch - They DRIP FEED titles onto these old game libraries, sometimes ignoring fan favorites - Their emulation started off horribly with N64 and games did not have great button mapping

Switch Online is the only one I'm fine with subscribing with because it's only $20. Ps plus essential is 4x that and feels limited for the price.
  • I primary play on pc and i dont think any of the consoles should have paid online multplayer when i can play online multplayer for free both pc and mobile . Also subscription in genral add up over time.
  • @ShiftNova
I stopped paying for PSN subscription after they increased the price as well.
  • I'm so glad I'm a PC gamer. My XBone PS4 and switch are collecting dust, The only reason I got them in the first place was to keep my kids off my PC .... I'm down to one kid at home and he is a PC gamer now with his own systems, :D LOL! Needless to say I canceled all my console subscription services.
  • They were never worth it. They are a completely unnecessary charge that Microsoft started in the 2000s just because they wanted more money out of people and for no other reason. I left consoles behind, and paying for online is a big reason why.
  • @FireBirbGD
If you only paying for online no, but if it's for features like game pass or other perks yes. (Ps plus is over priced)
  • @chessnord7934
Not worth it. I was a GamePass Ultimate subscriber (since it started), also PS+ and Nintendo Switch Online (also since it began). I unsubscribed to all these at the end of last year. The online games that I did play, I have restarted on PC (via Steam). Each room in my house has a Steam link connected to the TVs and I stream via Ethernet, so I can play on couch using a controller. I limit to 1080p @ 60Hz (limitation on the Steam Link) and it looks great with no lag whatsoever. To the casual observer it seems that I'm playing on a console. I figure that if I want to play a game on that's on GamePass I can either buy the game outright or just subscribe for a single month only, play + finish the game or try a few games out and then decide - but NO MORE AUTO RENEW. Same for PS+. For the classic Nintendo games I just use an emulator and play via Steam. Don't care for multiplayer from the console perspective.
  • @Octo_Chara
I have the NSO expansion and game pass ultimate. I'm perfectly fine with those and would rather buy PlayStation games when I get the console.
  • @luigitime202
Just to be clear, the retro games for Nintendo Switch Online are divided between only two different pieces of software between regions, so whenever he mentions Australia and New Zealand, he means everywhere in the world except Japan and Hong Kong.
