Pathological narcissism has multiple faces and presentations, but according to Diana Diamond they all share an inability to regulate normal narcissistic needs, and this causes distortions in personality.

Three variants of narcissistic pathology are high-functioning (grandiose), vulnerable & malignant. Diamond explains the difference between them in terms of level of personality organization.

We interviewed Diana Diamond about narcissism and its prevalence in our society today, all the way from healthy traits to Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).

“A person is, among all else, a material thing, easily torn and not easily mended.” “It wasn't only wickedness and scheming that made people unhappy, it was confusion and misunderstanding; above all, it was the failure to grasp the simple truth that other people are as real as you.”

  • We should measure our politicians on such findings BEFORE they get into power....don't you think? That would be the most significant improvement to democracy.

Can you imagine being a therapist to B list movie stars in Hollywood? Good God. You would have to manage so much narcissistic wounding, grandiosity, damaged vulnerability.
