So about the 'no wind' thing. In Japan the wind is often associated with spirits and the divine, and curtains, chimes and pinwheels are often hung to catch the wind and usher in good luck. Considering this game was made by a Japanese studio I think this detail is meant to imply that the city is godless or forsaken by the spirits and/or heaven.

The "I didn't throw it, friend." bit is genius lol. I'm going to use that from now on

That kid's voice you're remembering might be Susan Blu. She was in tons of 80s and 90s Saturday Morning Cartoons. She's most well known as the voice of Arcee in The Transformers Animated Movie & Show, and her work on Jem.

I love how the main character's name is just Fred 😂
  • Butterflies symbolize human souls in Japanese culture, so I think that gives us a clue about some of the story. Same with the fact that the hour right when the sun sets but it's not entirely dark yet (called oumagatoki in Japanese) is when the spirits cross over to our world.
  • 16:12 LOL this reminds me of Silent Hill after you had killed several monsters, and seen horrible things, one of the cutscenes James is like "Something STrange is Going on Here". ha ha ha NO SHIT! Damn how I miss 90's games. I still remember the Legendary dialogue from the Original Resident Evil. "You Were Almost a Jill Sandwich" "Here Jill take this lockpick since you are the master of unlocking"

“City of moons, eh? City of fools!” God damn, that’s just too damn golden!
  • @Zholat
Fred is the kind of guy who asks how much the 20$ ticket costs.

I'm introducing myself that way from now on "The name that they call me is Chris."

"It's like the writer didn't know where all of this was going when he wrote it" I think a lot of people would be surprised by how often that happens. It's just part of the process is fixing those crooked pathways once everything does end up coming together. Sometimes they get left in though and no one realizes, and I imagine it can happen a lot easier with games where so much of it is a group effort.

I love 3D from this era too. I think it benefits horror actually. Gives it a Lynchian quality

It's utterly unbelievable how less than a year ago I entered the Sega Saturn rabbit hole (especially Japanese-only games) and this channel starts dealing with this obscure material just a few months later. Please keep 'em coming, this content is amazing and it's also an important work of rediscovery and sharing!
  • Finally another channel that tackles the same type of games as GrimBeard. and with style too! Quickly becoming one of my fav channels. Thanks for what you do!
  • 7:15 This feels like an old YGOTAS bit, and I love it Also 10:32 , I think that's Lani Minella, who voiced woman and boy character in a LOT of old games (Rouge the Bat from Sonic is probably her most notable). She was the female equivalent of Steve Blum at the time lol. It also could be Mona Marshall or Tress MacNeille.

"zaboo? what are you, the long lost Kratt sister?" ...that's the best I came up with. Zabomafoo deep cut

They also developed Iblard Laputa no Kaeru Machi on Playstation. It's like LSD Dream Emulator but less trippy and more atmospheric.

My youtube recommendations have really gone to shit lately but it Finally dropped a gem like this on my lap. Excellent work friend, looking forward to seeing you blow up in a year's time.

Great video, I love obscure forgotten games like this!
