A rarely seen 1963 production, directed by Lee Mendelsen which highlighted Willie Mays at pretty much the top of his game.

  • Willie turned 92 in May of 2023 and is baseball’s oldest living Hall of Famer. And to me, he is baseball’s GOAT.
  • The GREATEST all around player, by far. He was unmatched as a fielder. He was a fielder who was the manager on the field & positioned his players based on his knowledge of the hitters. As a hitter, his record speaks for itself. His knowledge of the game was unmatched. He was flawless. My idol from 1951 until the present(2022)
  • It's beautiful that all those blind kids wanted to "see" Willie Mays the most ! ... Absolutely Beautiful.

This is a wonderful documentary. I loved it. His father was my grandfather's first cousin, and I was told stories of them playing baseball. My grandpa Mays was a life long baseball fan.

Thanks for uploading this. I totally idolized Mays as a kid, and I remember seeing this when it first aired. Still the best ballplayer I've ever seen. And his enjoyment of playing, combined with his intelligence on the field, made him unique.
  • MAYS was the best all around baseball player in MLB history, bar none, hands down.

Hats off to Lee Mendelson...this was fantastic! Being from Pittsburgh, I was really moved by the scene at the Pittsburgh School for the Blind.

Willow Mays…. What a beautiful and well told story on a man equally deserving of it. His buoyant disposition, always in control of his emotions, on and off the field, is in itself a testament of his overall greatness. A man, still a mortal, but bigger than life to all that yelled say hey kid. RIP BLACK PRINCE OF THE BASEBALL DIAMOND

What an absolutely refreshing watch. Greatest all-around player-fielder in MLB history, along with his GodSon... Barry Bonds. Ruth’s pitching dynamic is crazy though...
  • Willy Mays, was my favorite athlete of all time. Loved the enthusiasm and skill he displayed throughout his career.
  • My brother in law took me to a game in Atlanta when the Braves were playing the .Giants. Hank Aaron hit a home run, but Willie Mays single drove in the winning run for the Giants. I felt very lucky to see that game. As a former club house boy for the Braves in the late 60's my brother in law had alot of great stories, and one of the best was playing poker with Willie Mays during a rain delay. Thank you Willie Mays for making life a littie bit finer.
  • For those not familiar with the writer and narrator, Charles Einstein was the older half brother of actor Bob Einstein, better known as Super Dave, and actor/film maker Albert Brooks.
  • Makibg such great plays in centerfield with such a small glove compared with today's gloves.

I may not have seen Ruth or Cobb but I saw Willie Mays and I thank Jesus for my luck. Thank you, God.
  • A fun bit of trovia. Willie is the only man in MLB history to hit a home run in every inning from 1-16.

Willie was sooo good. Best all around. No debate.
  • Willie Mays is my great grandmother Janie Ruth Mays’ cousin… hey cousin

Although I've never had the chance to watch Mays play live baseball but I've watch many footage and IMO The Say Hey Kid is the g.o.a.t. Just a great all round player
