First and foremost, children need to know that it is okay to be children. They are children for a short period of time relative to their potential lifetime. Let them be children.

Williams describes what my ilk (boomers) had to deal with in school. We weren't taught to accept delusions off-hand. We were taught THINK before acting. We were taught to be polite and respect those that DESERVE respect. We sere taught logic and ACTUAL history (or close to it). We were encouraged to research what teachers taught. Today MOST teachers are controlled by government and unions and care only for themselves.

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

As a former child myself, do not fucking get me started.
  • I would have loved to have had at least some form of philosophy at secondary school (in the UK). At that time I couldn't tell you of one sixteen year old that even knew what philosophy was.
  • 50:00 i think the question was aiming at teaching kids very low level, basic philosophy just like they would learn things in bible school, where they learn religion instead of eg objectivism which clearly works excellently judging by the sheer number of religious people around the world

Ayn Rand was all about selfishness. Horrible to even think she's any kind of role model.
