Can I pass the Russian tests on Duolingo? Also with my thoughts on the site.

In this video I try the Russian milestone tests on Duolingo and also give my thoughts on the website.
I mainly spoke in Russian during the test because it helps me answer the questions, I made subtitles though.

I used the site when I first started the language and it made me so frustrated that I almost quit. It's so strict with the answers that it wants that even though I can make a whole video only speaking Russian I still can fail these questions because I didn't use the word they were thinking of.

It's a great website if you want to become a translator because that is basically all you are doing. I do find it ridiculous that you can fail a Russian test for not using correct English grammar.

I think Duolingo is a good starting point for learning a language but once you realise how inefficient it is, you become better at learning

I'm native Russian and I tried to Russian on Duolingo for fun. I've spend about an hour to fully complete it but sometimes I had weird errors and the pronunciation of the several words were quite strange.

Im french and im nearly billingual with english. I just started learning russian and duoling is actually so easy to use! I think its really good for someone that has no clue about a language. Gives you enough to at least have a basic conversation. And they teached me how to get coffee so its a win for me 😂

Whoa there! A native Russian here. Surprised how little subs you have. Great work on all the language learning/explaining! Duolingo is pretty strict with answers, but that's only because it wants you to understand all the tiny differences and some not-so-obvious things about the language you're learning. The difference between "the" and "this" is that the latter specifically means "этот/эта/это" while the former only implies that both the speaker and the listener know which object you are talking about, i. e. "this chair" - "это кресло", "the chair" - "кресло [, о котором я уже говорил раньше]". At least, that's how I would explain it. Sentences like "Whose sister is she?" would translate into "Чья она сестра?" rather than "Чья сестра она?". I believe Duo marked your answer as incorrect just because of the word order. It would be fun to see you continue this self-torture. P. S. Have you ever considered Japanese? I've been learning it for ~6 months on Duo and, save for some "inconveniences", I'm mostly satisfied with everything. Or should I say, 日本語を勉強するのが好きです。

I tried Russian on Duolingo and failed miserably. And I'm a native Russian
  • Most useful Duolingo phrases in Russian: "I will draw a bear on the desk, and then I will quickly go home." Я нарисую на столе медведя, а потом быстро пойду домой. "Люди во всём мире принимают душ, и только ты не хочешь." People all over the world take showers, and only you do not want to.
  • i'm "learning" japanese on Duolingo, and as it doesn't provide japanese course for russian (who i'm) -> i go japanese course in english. And it sometimes challenge my english in a more harsh manner then japanese :D hahaha
  • as a fluent in russian i am very surprised with your high skills in russian although duolingo is not the very best place to learn russian lol

You seem so chill! I'm learning Russian and Spanish right now, and Duolingo is great for getting the basics, and building up the routine of learning. It can be finnicky with only taking specific words, but that helps me personally because I recognize mistakes. Especially in terms of accents for writing.

Greetings from Russia. You did an impressive job. The test was not easy at all, our language is tricky. You are really good.

"Привет, лошадь" прозвучало очень странно х)

Nice, you got decent level, you speak confidently which is really important, молодец. 13:06 yeah that was fucking dumb, the most correct answer is "Чья она сестра?", but yours is acceptable too since as you know words can be in any order in Russian
  • Wow! Your channel is very underrated. I just started using duolingo to learn Japanese, and it is getting a bit frustrating. The reason for that is because every time I finish a lesson, I forget most of the words and handwriting becasue they didnt introduce it separately.

Угадал слово "скрипка" :) На самом деле нельзя сказать "даже если" в том предложении, потому что тогда будет значение "even at times when" (не знаю, понятно ли). В общем, либо "хотя", либо "несмотря на то, что". Классное видео!

5:05 There the subtitles say “Hello bear”, but лошадь actually means horse
