When you watch a Jazza, you don't just become a better artist.....You learn something!

This depiction of Medusa makes the most sense. If you make a god jealous they aren’t just gonna turn your hair into snakes. They’re gonna make you a grotesque ogre with snakes for hair.
  • @larissalweller
Medusa with wings makes so much sense. Her and Poseidon (God of ocean and horses) producing Pegasus, a winged horse is less random

you should make a serie about this!! not only ancient mythological monsters, but also representations of goddesses and gods of ancient mythology and stuff like that! I love this Medusa so much!! Jazza, you are so talented!
  • Classical Historian here! Love the video so much, can’t wait to share it with my coworkers and friends. You’ve captured Medusa so perfectly here! Depictions of Medusa and the other Gorgons are supposed to ward away evil of all sorts, with their appearance supposed to be so scary that even evil itself is afraid of them. I think you captured the fear of Medusa so well! Amazing work.

Finally an interpretation where she is as ugly as she was supposed to be! In the original Greek myth she was always a monster, had two other siblings as well. It was only in the Roman story that Ovid wrote there came about the more sympathetic version of her where she was a victim (or prideful enough to boast she was prettier than Athena depending on which version you read)

"That's how you know you're onto something good; You're afraid to continue" Jazza out here spitting wisdom! As a creative person myself I felt that in my SOUL.

I just wanted to say, your attitude towards the power outage was really inspiring. You could've pouted and made excuses, but instead you got to work. You rock, Jazza!

OG Medusa also had wings and clawed hands of brass... she was a freaking beast all the way !
  • @MasterZeus94
Apart from the yassification of Medusa, her entire story also changed in Roman times: it was Ovid who decided to make her a victim of Poseidon's asssault and Athena's punishment. In the early Greek versions, Medusa was a monster from the very beginning. She was the only mortal gorgon but compensated for that with her deadly gaze.

I absolutely love your Medusa! She looks so scary and just like your sketch. I really hope you will do another monster and paint it. Medusa looks so great painted!
  • @MrRyancarr13
Dude, this was insane. The shaping of the snakes on the back of her head was barely mentioned but was incredibly impressive like that was my favourite part of the whole thing, I think. And the textures on everything were just perfect and I really liked seeing the creative ways to get the skin and snakes done. I normally never comment but this was just done insanely well, fair play! :D
  • @x.soph.x
I always imagined her hair as the head end of the snakes and her beard full of snake tails.......almost as if they are going right through her head. Love this depiction x

Jazza, I mean no hyperbole when I say you and your team have single-handedly re-ignited my passion for all things creative. I have found myself consistently writing, sketching, and thinking creatively when my mind wanders. Thank you 🙏
  • @v.v365
I love the concept of finding the oldest surviving stories and working off the most close to original depictions of mythological monsters, and I love Greek mythology so I would absolutely love more videos like this! Hopefully without your studio losing power midway though, for your own sakes 😊
  • @billyspringbok
This was really cool! Ancient statues were usually painted and would have something like shell inserted for the irises. They were kind of garish and the eyes were a bit unsettling 😅 I'd love to see Echidna and/or Typhon. They were the parents of a lot of ancient monsters
  • The re-designing characters like in books, myths etc is so entertaining! Thanks jazza 🫶🏼 your talent never gets boring 👨🏼‍🎨
  • @mogiworkshop
Jazza, you should make the Nuckelavee! The nuckelavee ( /nʌklɑːˈviː/) or nuckalavee is a horse-like demon from Orcadian folklore that combines equine and human elements. British folklorist Katharine Briggs called it "the nastiest" of all the demons of Scotland's Northern Isles.

I’m voting for this to become a whole series! I want all the mythological beasts/creatures in their original ghastly and beautiful forms! Please, please, please make this a series. Sending love from Texas! ❤
