I'll never get over losing Woolworth's. I'm kind of surprised it wasn't mentioned here.
  • What about Montgomery Ward or Woolworths? I'm old enough to have remembered these stores, at least as a kid, but I haven't even heard of 80% of them.

Biggest heartbrake for me was when Toys R Us shut down. 😱 It was much better than KB Toys.

Walmart killed almost off almost all or local Mom and pop owed stores, resulting in vibrant downtown areas becoming vacant. Shop your local stores folks.
  • Not only them, but we had books a million, Dalton’s book store and Waldron’s books! Gaylord’s, Barker’s, TG&Y, S.S. Cresage, department stores and 5&dimes! Ohhh, how I miss those days!!!

I miss Blockbuster video. It was so much fun for families to go to Blockbuster Friday night to pick out 5 or 6 movies, popcorn and candy. The foreign movie section was my favorite spot.
  • I loved Borders books. I bought hundreds of books over the years. I went to book signings, etc. My husband and I went to several Border stores closing sales several times. We hated to see Borders books go. I still think about it with nostalgia.

I truly miss Borders Books. There was one close enough to my workplace that I could visit during my lunch hour. It was a peaceful, pleasant, break from my toxic jobplace. All their employees were super helpful and nice too.

Zayre...what a flashback! Remember their mid-1970's commercial jingle : "Compare, you can't do better than Zayre".

I’ve never heard of most of these stores, but I miss Woolworth’s, Montgomery Wards,Toys R Us, and Auerbach’s.
  • @emmel4fun
Now we can add the beloved 99cents Only store to this list.

I think you need two separate videos for the east and west. I’m 68, grew up in Los Angeles, California, and haven’t heard of most of these stores. Whatever happened to JJ Newbury’s, Woolworth’s, Zody’s, Akron, Pic ‘n’ Save, Montgomery Wards, Robinson’s, I Magnin, Joseph Magnin, Orbachs, Judy’s, Contempo, etc.? âœŒđŸŒ

If you put the work in, writing the script for the AI bot, why not just read it yourself? Sad...

Why don’t we get our old stores back and get rid of these big box people that can’t live with more and more more money. I hate Walmart. I hate all those big box companies.
