Commenting to say THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I picked up crochet last summer, loved it, and decided I wanted to learn how to knit this year, and all this month I've been looking up tutorial after tutorial of various knitting styles and struggling- Continental, English, Irish Cottage, Combined, Russian, etc- But none of them clicked or felt as right as Portuguese. So thank you so much for giving me just what I needed to knit! :D

Use a pin (tip - you can use even just a regular safety pin, you don't need a fancy pin, just something that the yarn with run freely through), thread the yarn through the pin, tension with your right middle finger, (as you described) and keep your yarn on an easy turning spindle. You will find that it keeps the tension even, the spindle keeps the yarn feeding to you, and the work doesn't keep getting closer to you, and you can keep an even pace. :) Happy knitting all!

I love your channel your so talented and cool 😎 thank you so much for sharing x x
  • I am a knitter, I do English flicking and do Portuguese knitting too from time to time and I do know it is more even in tension and yes you don't get sore as much. You can do any stitch pattern as long as you learn the basics. I think lulu on YouTube who does lots of hat patterns with Portuguese knitting, if I remember correctly.
  • I think you look great. I don’t own knitting needles. Honestly my crochet dance card is so full right now I can barely keep up with watching my subscriptions. It’s crazy! I do wish you the best with this journey and hope it’s fun for you.

My biggest issue is the tension especially on a knit row. Any tips?
