Lt. Gen Dr. S.L. Narasimhan (R) was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 1977. Holding a Ph.D. in India-China relations, he has received four awards from the President of India for his contributions to the Indian Army. A specialist in the Chinese language, he studied China and its history for eighteen years. Additionally, he served as the Defense Attaché at the Indian Embassy in China and held positions as a former member of the National Security Advisory Board and DG of the Centre for Contemporary China Studies.

In the latest ANI Podcast with Smita Prakash, he discusses China's economic growth and Xi Jinping's ambitions for global dominance. He elaborates on Xi Jinping's objectives through the Belt and Road Initiative and its potential implications for India and the world.

Dr. Narasimhan suggests that India must exercise caution in handling border disputes with China, as faceoffs might occur along the Line of Actual Control with Beijing. He also delves into China's interests in the Indian Ocean region and provides insights into China's demographic transition.

  • Lt Gen Dr. SL Narasimham (R) is clear like a crystal and it is a joy listening to him. Nonetheless, the questions from Smitha and Ajith have to be par excellence to elicit this type of mature response. Kudos to the team ANI
  • Listening to Lt. Gen. Narasimhan is an education. He is a level headed man, very fluent speaker without pauses and fillers, with clarity and accuracy.❤ Please invite him again.

Undoubtedly the best level headed discussion on China I have listened to. This is what news should be like. Commend both the interviewers too in elevating the discourse beyond nationalistic stuff
  • The guest was very very astute and knowledgeable. Very pragmatic and practical, one of the best analysis of China I’ve ever heard. The lady host’s questions are on point. Kudos.👏👏

JAYANT BHANDARI is right again, 1% growth of a mouse and 1% growth of an elephant are not comparable. China and India are two different animals and shouldn't be compared at all.
  • Thank you for inviting him.....definitely the best discussion on China, and Sino-Indian relationship dynamics i've heard online in years.......most other podcasts only pander to jingoism.
  • As a non Indian but always want to see India a prosperous , peaceful, world leading power for world peace. India should not be alarmed by other countries prosperity like China. Also self pleasuring by criticizing other countries does not give any value. There are many fronts India and China can be ally despite many issues. western countries domination to Asia can be minimize by Indian and Chinese ally. ❤ this show from 🇳🇵

Gen. Narasimhan is such a logical, intelligent, level headed person! It is heartening and comforting to see that India has people like him.

The Chinese is pragmatic, its stand never changed, China's stand back from 1962 is: doesn't recognize that the Johnson's line in the west and the McDonald Line in the east as border lines because those lines were drawn randomly and unilaterally by Englishmen, not agreed by both sides back then. But China willing to do a swap, i.e. India takes what currently held in the east, and China takes currently held in the west. From India's stand, India wants both, this what the real problem lies.

LG Dr. SL Naramsimhan is not only knowledgeable but could analyse with such detachment on issues so emotional on both sides. Appreciate his depth and clarity on these issues.

It is still a mystery that India with its 1.4 billion people has only one-fifth of China's GDP. My belief is if India concentrates on building its economy and does not have too much infighting at home or playing the politics between the US, Australia, and Japan against China, it can improve. If India gets to the same level of the Chinese in the future, they will also have the same treatment as the US has given the Chinese today. The US has a track record of using a "Divide and Conquer" strategy, playing one country against another. Any country that threatens to be a superpower is a threat to the US and India is no different. The West for its years of dominance from the British Empire to American Imperialism will not want to see an Asian power. India should understand that. The sub-continent should try to emulate China's success and provide a strong partnership with China in Asia. Being the world's largest democracy counts for nothing if you cannot put food on the tables for the people. A strong India-China relationship is good for the prosperity and peace of Asia and the world.

I am a Chinese. I like your discussion. I give you a thumb up.. You are factual and neutral. Unlike another host, Palki, from Vantage, everything about China is negative. Chinese people do want to visit India. But the Indian government doesn’t issue visa to us. We Chinese don’t hate Indian people. You guys can visit China without a problem.
  • @ripeshvyas286
it was really very informatic I Pod thank you ANI and Shri Narashimhan
  • @pardeeptandon
Even Tawain claims Arunachal Pradesh is part of China. I wonder why India has agreed to defend Taiwan without pressuring Taiwan to blackout this Chinese claim?
  • @amitabhdes
Excellent interview as always! Lots to learn from the deep and comprehensive knowledge of Lt. Gen Dr. Narasimhan. Kudos also to Smita Prakash and Ajit Dubey for 'spreading' out the context of the interview and covering a lot of ground.

  • Chinese started building chips in 2003! I was there! My friend has been living in China since 2000.

very impressed with the new style of added News headlines and videos to show proof. More podcasts need to do this, so people don't believe everything blindly.
