Love that footage, the more I see of London ... the more I miss it
  • Good video about Stratford Highspeed station, and good detail about it's history. It is hard to believe that it has been almost 15 years since Highspeed 1 has been open.

Stratford is definitely a sort of 'station to nowhere' . Unless you live there or are shopping at Westfield it's a bit of a ghost station. fantastic footage by the way!
  • Looking forward to the day when Stratford International finally serves trains to and from the European mainland. With the restored Ashford and Ebbsfleet stops included too. It seems such a monumental waste of taxpayers money having these facilities underused or moribund. The U.K. government should really push for more travellers to take the train to the European mainland instead of flying. Especially given the railway’s greener and cleaner credentials. The utilisation of Stratford International (as originally intended) would also relieve pressure on St Pancras International and afford passengers a greater range of onward destinations in both London and the southeast. And when HS2 is finally completed more of the U.K. will be in reach with much faster services to rival domestic flights. Stratford International would also be ideally placed as a hub to feed into the expanded rail network with travellers to and from Europe. Connectivity is key to any successful and thus profitable transport network. Not to mention the increased passenger numbers from having a choice of journeys and destinations that you can reach quickly and easily. Thank you for your most interesting and informative video.

Great video as always. It's interesting to know how hopeful the government were that the line would be more competitive than air travel, so they expected lots of people to use the station.

I’ve been there before and it’s quite a massive station that was built for Eurostar trains to serve Stratford International for the London 2012 Olympics. But it never happened and is only served by Southeastern Highspeed that operates direct services from St. Pancras International to Canterbury, Maidstone, Ashford International, Ebbsfleet International, Folkestone and Dover.
  • there is usually an 08 shunter stabled next to Orient Way in the Eurostar depot , the class 37 at the end is also usually present in the GA bit which was on the former EWS depot site near Lea Valley station. I presume the whole depot site, bus depot and market were once part of the Temple Mills hump yard?

Why aren't the stations at Stratford, Ebbsfleet, and Ashford, all simply renamed 'HS1' or 'High Speed' after their first names? None of them provide continental travel now.
  • @Buscolin
Well done mate Worked out of Liverpool Street Station for years. But moved over in 1996 to work on buses out of Stratford
  • I should be called stratford highspeed instead of stratford international
  • @johng5474
Without a direct link between HS1 and HS2 we will never get a proper high speed network that feeds into Europe. Just think the sleeper trains for North England were built and ready to go but just sat rusting away before being sold to Canada.
  • @lmj9517
    it's actually spelt International!
  • @idontknow12383
They should've called it Stratford south-east or stratford HS1 instead cus eurostar don't stop there
