I'm a person who doesn't know my tribal affiliation. They've tried so hard to keep it away from me. If any Native youth can read this... The one thing I want to say.... Your knowledge about your culture, language, your connection to your culture and your identity, is power. Hold on to it and embrace it.

Thank you so much for singing this song again, and teaching us in a deeper way the meaning. I am of European dissent and was very drawn to this song. A native friend of mine said the women should sing it at the full moon, so I started learning it, and I sat with my AnishauNabi twoSpirit cousin who encouraged me to sing with humility, intention and with love, and we sang it together. I felt like I needed to ask permission, and they said “you’re trying to do it in a good way, and if these grammas have put this online this wonderful grandmother for you to sing then you should sing it”. I live in the Pacific Northwest where rain may seem plenty to others but our trees are dying. Because of drought, because of water “mismanagement”, so I sing this song as a prayer to these super spirit beings, the grandmothers, the thunder beings, the water carriers and great mystery and I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me songs to all the people of the rainbow. Megwich!
