They can't all be beautiful hikes in warm sunny weather. Join me on this challenging camp in the English Lake District. This ended up being some of the toughest weather I have had to contend with while hiking and camping in quite some time. The rains and winds were relentless but adjustments were made as the hike went on to find a safe place to hunker down in the tent for the night. If I had known the conditions were going to be this rough I probably would have postponed my trip. The last thing I want to do is glorify camping in potentially dangerous weather. Sometimes it’s best to just remember that these beautiful landscapes are not going anywhere and they will still be here if you just wait and camp on a different day. This is a lesson I still need to learn. I am definitely guilty of being a bit impatient when waiting for a dry day, as they don't always align with when I have the opportunity to camp. But if you do choose to camp in these conditions, bringing the right equipment is essential and being flexible with your plans is very important. Hope you enjoy the video.

When this guy says he's going to make some dinner I assumed he was going to pull out a freeze-dried ration and boil some water on his gas cylinder stove. You know, quick and easy. But no, he starts chopping fresh veggies and browning 1/2 pound of beef. But that's not all, he whacks out a Trangia alcohol burner in those gale-force winds, and then proceeds to lit it with a match, just to make himself a proper meal. That's my new definition of dedication. Never again will I complain about my camp food.

Imagine being a Roman doing a 100km hike to go fight the Celts.

I don’t know why is so engaging to see someone facing the elements and, in this case, with so much grace. Thanks again for all your videos!!

school boy error not having a change of clothing in a drybag, but fair play for toughening it out ,the food looked amazing 👌

Since I was little, I always loved the thought of being in a tent with friends, while a storm raged outside. Weird, I know.

I am new here, I am very impressed a brother from across the pond is mastering walks through the L.D. in such weather, not easy even for us Northerners.

This camping trip looks like great fun wet windy and a sprained ankle to top it off

This is the best video youve done. 💯 inspiring in fact “embrace the suck” yep. When you have to dig down into yourself and keep pushing forward. Oh! For emergencies i carry a pair of bike pants. These are like leggings and are lined. They dry quick, warm, dont weigh much. Excellent adventure

Tenacity backed up with a positive mental attitude in spades. Knowing that you have top class kit with you certainly helps you psychologically when you encounter perilous conditions like you experienced in the wettest area of the UK . Sone good tips in the vid and the importance of having tertiary back up with the Garmin In Reach. It has definitely prompted me to make a purchase including an emergency bothy shelter when I'm up on the high fells with my small group of fellow hikers. Just another great video, highlighting the Lake District in its characteristic weather patterns which can turn nasty and dangerous in the blink of an eye. I also have to comment again on your culinary skills, simply amazing. Take care and ATB. Michael.😊👊👍
  • Walking over those rocks is bad enough then add the extreme weather very taxing. I just came across your channel. As for myself I'm also a solo backpacker. I started solo backpacker when I was 10 yrs old I'm 61 now and stil at it. Thanks for sharing ❤

Greetings from France! I was just watching a " Go 4x4 " vidéo and the guy has all the gadgets and tools and home cinema in his tent. You know this kind of guys... and then Ithere is you...Good job, thanks for the trip. You got yourself a new subscriber.

It was very apt that the sound of the rain beating down on the tent translated as "applause" in the closed-captioning. 😆
