Former Tasmanian premier's statue chopped down in the night | ABC News

Published 2024-05-15
The statue of controversial former Tasmanian premier William Crowther has been cut down in the night, a day after an attempt got partway through its legs.

Crowther, a surgeon before he became premier, mutilated and stole the head of Aboriginal man William Lanne in 1869.

Tasmania's Civil and Administrative Tribunal has upheld the council's decision last year to remove the statue.
