@ History First, thank you for uploading these classics. Second, PLEASE consider a return to the more retro History channel we all grew up on and loved so dearly. We're sick of Pawn Stars and honestly just want to see more simple documentaries and shows that teach us something! Please!

It’s hard to believe the Reagan is almost half way through its expected lifespan. It seems like yesterday it was commissioned and was the newest big stick in the Navy.

The USS Gerald Ford got bigger...and much more expensive.
  • @jackguess762
The carrier has over 3 and a quarter million pounds of paint alone 🤯 that’s crazy
  • @robertbenoit5374
It reaches speeds faster than 30 knots. Much much faster but I can't say how much faster. That's classified. However, Gerard R, Ford is now the most Advanced aircraft Carrier that the US Navy has in Service.

The USS Battleship NEW JERSEY is docked in Camden New Jersey right across from Philadelphia and you can take a tour of the big ship🇺🇲🇺🇲
  • Since this episode came out in 2005 we have new ships in our fleet. 0:41 The USS Reagan is the lead ship of its class the Reagan Class which is one of the three sub-classes of the Nimitz Class Carriers. The first class is the Nimitz Class or as some call it The Command Class ships in this class are named after WWII officers USS Nimitz is the flagship of the US Navy and always gets a warm welcome where it goes. Other ships in this class are the USS Ike CVN 69, and USS Vinson CVN 70 by the time you watch this video all three ships of the Nimitz Class will be leaving for their final deployments because in November 2023 the Nimitz Class will be retired and the first three ships of the class will be towed to NNS to be defueled and scrapped. The Nimitz Class was built during Vietnam in the 60s and 70s and are now 52 years old it is time to remove them from service and replace them. Next is five ships of the Teddy Roosevelt Class all of them have been refueled and returned to service with the last two ships in the class the Stennis and the Truman going into drydock at NNS to be refueled. the lead ships of the class the Teddy Roosevelt, the Washington, and the Abe Lincoln are being fitted out and will deploy this summer. Finally we have the newest ships in the class and the final ones ever built to comply with the Washington Treaty the USS Reagan which this episode is about and the USS Bush which in this episode is under construction at NNS. These ships comprise the Reagan Class and they are state of the art with new systems. Upon retirement of the Kittyhawk Class and the Forrestal Class the Navy ordered these ships to be scrapped with the last two being the Enterprise and the Kennedy. These ships have been replaced by a 21st century design the Ford Class which uses designs tested on Disney roller coasters. The four ships of this class are the USS Ford which has now deployed, the USS Kennedy which is being fitted out and will go on its madden voyage at the end of the year, the Big E USS Enterprise CVN 80 which is being built, and the USS Miller which is being cut out of steel blocks in the fab shop. Today our navy depends on the Ford Class to take us into the 21st century and to retire the Nimitz Class by 2025 so better ships can be built to defend our nation.

5:18 he needs to catch up on his history lol. Midway wasn't the first navel battle to take place where the ships never saw each other, that would be the battle of the coral sea. In which the Lexington was sunk and the Yorktown was so badly damaged that the Japanese thought she sunk. She did eventually sink a few months later at midway despite her crews amazing effort at damage control
  • @kingMT514
“Forget what you heard, size does matter.” 😔
  • I’d watch this on cable many moons ago when tv was all we had. I must admit to like it better on YouTube. Too bad I’m so old now.
  • 4:35 noticeable flaws in info. That ship, Jupiter (Which became the Langley) was NOT a Cruiser. Cruisers are fast vessels with middle size guns (Ranging from 6 and 8 inch guns up to 12 inch guns), torpedos and sea planes Jupiter was a Collier, which is basically coal ship, she had didn’t have torpedoes or an airplane and only one guns she carried were 4 4 inch 50 caliber guns. She was no means a cruiser. Interestingly, her sisters (Proteus, Nereus and the famous Cyclops) were all lost in the area of the Bermuda Triangle, and have never been found.
  • @garyrunnalls7714
Hey Commander FYI the Langley was never a cruiser it was a collier.
  • I served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk CVA63 November 1972 till August 1975. Then traded Duty stations with another sailor aboard the USS Constellation CVA64. I worked in the Weather Office.
