You gotta give it to Edwards and Gilroy to work hand in hand to deliver the best picture possible. I love that egos were put aside for the sucess of the movie. It shows.

Rogue One is my favorite of the Disney Star Wars films. Anybody else think Gareth Edwards should have directed Episode IX over Abrams?

Those last 20-30 minutes in Rogue One are pure gold.

I’m a Vet, and this is my favorite SW film. When they bring in the Rebel dismounts, it feels so much like a homecoming, like I instantly see grunts I’ve served with over the last 15 years. This is the most realistic and important element in the flick to me.
  • People keep saying that the exhaust port was a plot hole, but in the movie it's explained that in additon to the things mentioned in this video, the port is ray shielded and the trench is heavily armed, showing that although the designers didn't consider one man fighters to be a serious threat, they still took it into account. And the rebel pilots' reactions to the briefing show that it's a desperate plan with little chance of success. The only person in the room who seems confident is a naïve farm boy who only last night was staring into the sunset dreaming of excitement, adventure and really wild things.

Rogue One is easily the best Srar Wars movie so far under Disney so far

I loved Rogue One. But I would love to see a Director’s Cut (even if I feel it won’t happen).

The film I’m most proud to be in as a rebel marine. So much fun filming!!

Still gutted we never got that beach and tie fighter sequence in the final film! The ending with Vader was an excellent call! ❤

I don't feel like the theatrical cut we got needed to be changed, I'm just disappointed we never got to see the scenes that were cut in any form. Deleted scenes were never included on any release of the film. Ever since seeing that conversation with Krennic and Vader in the trailer where Krennic says "The POWAH we are dealing with here is immeasurable", I've always wanted to see the rest of the scene. That line and the way Ben Mendelsohn delivers it is just too good.

Imagine if Gareth Edward's was given the sequel trilogy. It would have been incredible.

Aside from sadly not getting to see the beach run on the big screen, I really feel the re-edit to this film is superior. Rogue One is a lot of fun, but the Vader “kill box” ending makes it one of the greatest SW films in the series.
  • There is some stuff from Gareth Edwards cut that I would've loved to have seen in the theatrical cut. But besides that, I freaking love the final cut.
  • the one I am hoping to see is the one with Krennic saying to Vader, "the power we are dealing with is unimaginable"
  • Forest Whitaker's lines from the trailer were very compelling. I kept waiting for him to say them in the movie. "What will you do if they catch you? What will they do if they break you? ... If you continue to fight. What will you become?" That was odd.

I find it funny that they were worried it wasn't as good as Force Awakens as I find Rogue One to be a much better film - while unnecessary, it tells an interesting tale where as Force Awakens just retreads the same ground as previous movies. It isn't unusual for a trailer to have shots that don't make the final cut, or even for there to be shots done just for the trailer, but wow there seems to be a huge difference between what was being promoted and what was finally released. I think the finished product is a good film but yeah, would be interesting to see the original cut to see what Disney originally agreed to make and what the cast all signed on for. Sounds like it wouldn't be that different for the most part but some interesting changes. You never know, Disney + always needs content and this would be a quick and easy thing for them to put up there so I wouldn't be surprised if it gets released sooner than later.

Having now watched The Creator it's safe to say Edwards struggles with telling a good story. He is an excellent director but clearly has trouble with narrative, therefore the reshoots and Gilroy's rewrite seem like they massively improved the movie. Rogue One is the best thing with the Star Wars brand on it since Genndy Tarkovsky's Clone Wars cartoon and that's thanks to Edwards AND Gilroy. I don't think I need to see a director's cut and I think Edwards agrees. I want to see Edwards work with better screenwriters in future because he has such a good directing style but his stories always fall short. Rogue One is definitely his best work so far though.

Gareth Edwards is a class act. He has always been humble and spoken with a positive attitude about this film. Also, he WAS fired. Back then Disney cared much more about ensuring positive spin on their films and TV than they do now (so many train wrecks and publicity nightmares!). I have multiple friends in the VFX business who have independently stated that Edwards was given marching orders off of this film. I can't imagine how painful it must have been for him and to then have to go promote the film as if nothing happened and everyone was still friends.

That editor gave us one of the most popular and badass vader scenes of all of star wars

The Tie fighter/tower scene could have easily been worked into the theater release. Jen is stopped by the fighter but, just as she closes her eyes expecting to be blasted, a rebel X Wing destroys the TIE so Jen can upload the Death Star plans.
