This was an incredibly difficult project. Not necessarily because it was hard, but because it was ungodly tedious. I underestimated the amount of time it would take, this video was meant to come out in August, when Fuwamoco was more newly debuted

The footage I used is an old iroha02 drifting video. I tried to AI upscale it, but there was no saving the video details, the whole thing is blurry and washed out. I did whatever I could to save the footage.

A big problem with it is how the screen shakes around. It would jump like a fifth of the entire screen to the left. To make it reasonable to animation on top of, I needed to stabilize the footage. Due to the lack of image quality, after effects tracking can't properly follow the footage.

It took me nine passes to stabilize the footage enough. It was nuts, I would run a stabilizer, and it would still be shaky as hell, plus the footage gets a ton of motion blur in some areas, which would make the machine tracker fuck off into the ninth dimension. I needed to hand track about two thirds of the thing. Nine times. It took about ten hours per pass. It was hell.

Fuwawa's hand tracking, with how her arm bends, was entirely impossible to machine track. The entire thing was hand tracked. Frame by frame. For both arms. The amount of time it took cannot be overstated, there was so many points in the project where I just wanted to give up, very much glad to be done

    Fuwawa's arm movements are all custom, I sat through it frame by frame, I couldn't find any parts to copy paste any of the movements, even though it looks like the movements are repetitive, the driver has various nuances to the way he moves it's not exactly the same in any two parts, it honestly amazing how he does what he does With how old the video is, the video quality made it essentially impossible to machine track it, it needed to be done by hand. The tracking in this video gave me such hell, especially since there's so many parts that needed tracking, I'm kinda surprised it even came out, I almost gave up on it so many times
