As a refugee Greek Cypriot from the north but raised in the south, I found this video wonderful. Very accurate, very unbiased and honest and a the best little sum up of my country I have seen on YouTube. Better than the Cypriot stuff from either side. Great great video. Made me homesick
  • LITERALLY was not expecting this to be that accurate. Most people talking about the island are delirious about what the current state is or was for the island. Job well done mate ;)

3:49 Mount Olympus was named like that because ancient Greek Cypriots worshiped the Greek Gods. When the Achaean Greeks migrated to the island they brought their culture with them and named many places after their homeland. Cyprus was part of Ancient Greece. So, saying that they copied the name from Greece is like saying "Sicily copied Italy".
  • Cypriots are very remarkable and hospitable people, every summer I'm visiting Paphos(Πάφος) in SouthWest Cyprus, I love the food the beaches and the climate.

I'm from Greece and YES we absolutely LOVE Cypriots and they LOVE us too. I don't think that  in the whole planet there is a friendship stronger than this one. But, the Cyprian Greek and the Hellenic Greek are much more like British and American English. However, Cypriots indeed have some unique words but generally we can understand them.

As a person, who lived 4 years in this place, I would like to thank you for this video. It drove me to some nostalgic memories. Peace to Cyprus!
  • @PC_Simo
I always thought Cyprus looked kind of like an electric guitar.
  • Cyprus is a major tourist destination in the Mediterranean. With an advanced, high-income economy and a very high Human Development Index, the Republic of Cyprus has been a member of the Commonwealth since 1961 and was a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement until it joined the European Union on 1 May 2004.

The Cypriot dialect according to philologists has its roots from the ancient Greek and Medieval Greek. Same characteristics can be found in the dialects of Crete and Rhodes and other dialects of mainland Greece that now are extinct.
  • im greek cypriot and im so happy this video exists! you did a great job explaining everything in a very unbiased way which is hard to find on the internet so thank you for that!
  • @PatilToutounjian
This is super helpful!! My next destination is Cyprus and this episode definitely gives me a lot of background information needed before the visit! Thank you!
  • @freddst
I used to live in Antalya, Turkey and I had a beautiful time visiting both sides of Cyprus!! I would always go on getaways to visit my friends.

Cyprus is amazing! I went there on holiday and loved it, so much history it's unreal and truly fascinating. Also got to go through that UN buffer zone, which was interesting! Hopefully both the North and South will unite. I'm sure they'll find a solution soon! Much love from the UK 🇬🇧🇨🇾
  • @neptune314
People are talking about a Greek-Turkish comment war when there is no war. That's awkward.
  • @kevinestrada977
    Cyprus is mentioned in Acts 4:36, Acts 11:19, Acts 11:20, Acts 13:4, Acts 15:39, Acts 21:3, Acts 21:16, & Acts 27:4.
  • I love both greek and turkish culture and food, so Cypres could be a good place for vacation. 🇨🇾
  • @konchr86
Dude, Amazing Job! You must have put a lot of effort into this since most of Cyprus is not well documented. One thing to note is that when abroad, Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriots are actually hanging out together. They are basically the same people. the buffer zone is a political divide. Anytime you want to drop by, just let us know and we will take care of you:)

Best friend: Greece... Like we didn't know that. 12 points to Greece about every time. Oh Eurovision!
