Tensions between the Israeli military and Lebanese armed group Hezbollah are at an all-time high.
They've been engaged in low-level hostilities for more than eight months.
The assassination of one of Hezbollah's most senior commanders last week, however, saw an unprecedented response.
US President Joe Biden sent a special envoy to the region, hoping to defuse tensions and prevent a wider conflict.
But has it worked?
And with no sign the Israeli military is close to ending its war on Gaza in the south, is it on the brink of opening up a second front in the north?

  • Who wants imperialism? Who wants colonialism? Who wants occupation? Who wants siege? Who wants apartheid?
  • @Onequietvoice
Israel has made it clear that they want such a war. Israel's previous adventures in to Lebanon did not end well for them.
  • Almost every 'mediator', 'envoy' etc., that the US sends is Jewish. Help me with the logic behind that?

  • @AllMightyLee
When identifying Hezbollah, all medias call them "Iran backed". But why not also calling Israel "US backed" then?

we've reached that moment in ISREAL as we did in Cuito Cuanavale---when the apartheid regime in South Africa realized the white supremacist colonial game was over.....
  • Israel’s willingness to avoid another catastrophic war with Hezbollah, like the one in 2006, is critical

  • When one of them suggested Israel would go after the Lebanese state rather than focus its attention on Hezbollah, what that really means is bombing civillians as they've done in Gaza. The thinking being the population will turn on them as being the cause of their suffering. Its a strategy that doesn't work but gives the appearance of military success. In Gaza its very unclear how successful the IDF has been actually fighting and defeating Hamas despite what they tell us.. The likes of Hamas and Hezbollah specialise in insurgences and acemetric warfare. which makes them very hard to kill..
