Any combo of western swing, honky tonk and hillbilly boogie sounds like a winner to me. Plus the cover is iconic. Rockin' Bonnie sounds like a winner. After hearing "Hell Ride Boogie. I want to hear more. I will certainly see if Bonnie is indeed a rocker. <> One of the things that I always admired in the VC was the variety of tastes. You surely set the bar high. Excellent update H~ Rob/Boston

Thank you very much for these nice music discoveries. Above all Marcella Simien sounds wonderfull! Greetings from Northern Germany.
-
Oops, make that Hedley.
-
All these were new and of interest to me, especially that Numero Group release. Thanks for sharing!
-
Thanks Hadley, great stuff. Twenty-odd years back, I’d enjoy The Mavericks on South Beach when they were the only Miami alt country band (not a total contradiction), just before they moved to Nashville.
-
Rockin' Bonnie is terrific ! Lately, I've added " Brujo" NRPS Poco " Under The Gun" ( my only missing title ) Billy Joe Shaver " Old Five And Dimers Like Me" also.. Taos ! Nice showing on this one, Hedley 🎵

You are really delivering the variety! Everything here is great but I especially love the sound of Vera Sola and Branko Mataja. Branko reminds me a little bit of Marc Ribot and Bill Frisell.

Another 20 minutes of musical fabulousness, Hedley..and I enjoyed everything, however I have to say that Vera Sola was stunning..I will stream the rest of the album, but I am pretty sold already..love her vocals and the backing was just superb. Love the back story of the Yugoslavian guy, a maverick musician, building his own guitars and effects, recording from home..he and Dave Evans would've definitely hit it off!. Great video. Rob.

Hi Hedley! I hardly know any of the albums you show but I really like your videos. Inspirational and entertaining to listen to you. Good work!

Good to see you back in my feed. I missed you. Just wanted to share a stat I think you'll find interesting, and it's that George Strait, a 72 year old American country singer, just sold over 110,000 tickets to a stadium show somewhere in Texas. It's the highest number of tickets ever sold for a single performance by anyone, at least in the States. Eat your heart out Taylor.

All great choices, but the Marcella really resonated with me. Very funky as well. There is a great version of Where You Are on their live album. Going to be doing some more research. Cheers!

All stellar picks, Hedley! Thanks for sharing these! Great ear you’ve got there!

My name Joseph Cvetetic..raised on Croatian folk music..

You can't have too much Yugoslavian folk! I did like that - very tempted to invest in a copy. Also enjoyed the needle drop for Vera Sola, so maybe another one to get - will check out the rest of the album. Nice to see some retro-country from the old country too 😁. Nice video Hedley... Cheers... Pete

Hi Hedley - I liked the Calexico feel of Vera Sola music and she has a distinct voice. Not particularly my think but Rockin' Bonnie sounded fun. Branko Mataja was the pick of the bunch for me I will be exploring that. Cheers Dale

I started thinking about Calexico as you were giving your description and then you mentioned them. I will have to check out Vera Sola. I love seeing soul and country as well with two artists new to me. I see that the Mataja album was put out by Numero (which you pointed out) but they have put out so many great releases. Happy listening.

I used to think (and friends told me) that I had a taste for overly dramatic music. Then I met you, Hedley. 😄 No… the Vera Sola album is really good. I haven’t picked up a physical copy though. I’m not even saying I have a ton of the records from their catalog, but I honestly think I could only buy records from Numero Group and be totally fine. I would never do that, but just saying… Cheers, Hedley ✌🏻

Based on this line-up, i'd suggest Lhasa de Sela (r.i.p.); Sacri Cuori (Italian instrumental; you'll love them if you enjoy Calexico); June McDoom (either of two EPs & her debut digital single on Temporary Residence); СОЮЗ / SOYUZ "Force of The Wind" (their latest, but their earlier LPs are also very good; Band from Belarus who are deeply inspired by classic style MPB); Dig the Mataja; really love Over Fields and Mountains.

Branko Mataja... WOULD HE SAY: "I GOT TO TAPE PLAYERS AND A MICROPHONE"??? 😂😂 GET IT!?!

I got a bit of a Coen Brothers soundtrack vibe from your purchases. What's in my bag makes me wanna visit there in reality would it be a letdown though as all the work is done for you. This camp near York is it the one that's now a museum?
