My mom used to pile all the pie scraps and roll out the scraps. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and roll it up like a nut roll, bake and slice. Nice memories 😢
  • I learned how to make fried chicken exactly like you describe doing it with the exception of peanut oil. I learned using lard. I am 62, learned from my mother who learned from her mother. They came from southeastern Kentucky. I treasure every moment spent with my mother. I pray we get a second chance in heaven to let our loved ones know just how much they were loved while God allowed them to be on His earth. Ms. Lori you are loved.

Love hearing the stories from the early years and the recipes from the Old days and how they survived the times.
  • Ms. Lori I wish I could give you a big hug right now!!! Because of you, I made strawberry jam today for the first time ever and it turned out amazing! You are so encouraging and your videos are easy to follow and you take it step by step as if you are right here with me. I can't tell you how much joy it has brought to me today. I kept repeating your words in my mind, " take your time and if you make a mistake it's ok", I always trust you for the best advice and I just want you to know how much I appreciate everything you do. I know this doesn't have much to do with this video, but I needed to share my day with you and let you know how special and what a blessing you and Pa are to me. I love you and Mr. Brown and hope you have a blessed weekend.🫂❤😀
  • PEAR is my favorite.. hardly no one seems to make pies with this fruit . I would love to see some SAVORY FRIED PIES.. THANKS!!!
  • Ms. Lori, this is how I learned to fry chicken and pork chops. My grandmother taught my mother and mom taught me. And the white gravy with the mashed potatoes....YUMMY!! Thank you for the reminder. You and Mr. Brown are livin' right, and it your channel is my absolute favorite.

My grandmother, my mother and I all fry our chicken just like this. We don't let it sit in buttermilk or batter it with eggs. Simply dip in flour, season with salt and pepper and pan fry. So delicious, but for some reason, my Grandma's chicken was the best of all of ours.
  • Ps. Miss Lori love your last video on your life experience on your homestead and plans for retirement and traveling! ❤

Here in Michigan as far as meat pies go. We have a thing called the Patsies the originate out of upper Michigan. We call the U.P. and they have meat in it, Rutabagas, potatoes. A lot of people put different things in it, but that's usually the main ingredient. Little bit of gravy. Very delicious. That's my remembrance of meat pies and all. There's tons of different versions out there, but they are great. They're one of my favorites. They're absolutely delicious! I would love to see you Do another meat pie recipe that'd be awesome!. I love this version as well. God bless you guys!
  • This 71 year old still likes her chicken cooked this way. My mother cooked hers this way. It's the best.
  • I love growing Herbs! I love to smell them and the Mint is delicious! This is how all us southern women fry chicken. Salt, pepper and flour and put in a pan of hot grease or lard! I like using lard but its gotten so hard to find. I don't get enough fat to render down anymore! Can't afford it and our pig farmers are hanging on to what they have for harder times n family! Nothing as good as homemade fried pies no matter what kind you make! That's the way my Mama and family, neighbors, or anybody I ever knew made their crust! My mouth was watering so bad when I saw the pear preserves! I love to eat them in pies, biscuits, on toast, English muffins or by them selves! Love to sop my biscuit in the juice! Absolutely delicious. I grew up on homemade and lived homemade. With 13 of us, we were just simple plain ole poor country folk and at 67, I'm still that way! One thang for sure, we had love, happiness and Jesus in our family! Can't get no better than that here in the mtns of Ga... Thank you Miss Lori.. Happy Fathers Day Mr Brown! Love and Prayers to y'all.. God Bless. 🙏🙏❤❤

OMG!!!! My Grandma use to take leftover pie crust and put jelly or cinnamon and sugar in strips and nothing went to waste. We could hardly wait for it to come out of the oven. Great memory. Thanks for sharing and bringing forth old memories. I'm 70 and can still remember her kitchen and love.
  • Hi Ms Lori… my favorite food videos are always about homemade dough of some kind. I remember watching my Granny Daisy making & rolling out dough for biscuits or dumplings & she’d give me a lil ball to play with. I was in my glory! You & Mr Brown are such wonderful down to earth people & I love y’all! GOD BLESS! 🙏♥️
  • Miss Lori this brings back so many memories. My grandmother would make fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans or corn with rolls an fried apricot pies on Sundays. I miss her so much an she help raise me.!! Happy Father's Day Mr. Brown!! Y'all have a blessed weekend!!

My mom made a pot roast pie that she called a meat pie..... basically leftover pot roast, potatoes, carrots, onion and gravy covered with a crust that was a cross between biscuit and pie crust baked like a cobbler. So good on a cold day.
  • I was born in Kentucky and my grandma had chickens. On Sunday mornings she would get up early kill and dress a chicken and fry it up for dinner after church. Talk.about fresh...... and it was delicious. She always saved the pulley bone piece for me. Love those memories. Love from.Missouri

Buttermilk acts a tenderizer for the chicken and that's why My late beloved G'Ma always marinated her chicken pieces in Buttermilk for a few hours or overnight before flouring them and pan frying them . Always made for a delicious yummy crispy crunchy crust !
  • Buttermilk brine will make the chicken super tender and it also adheres the flour to the chicken for a wonderful crust. I love Miss Lori’s videos. They warm my heart. It just makes me miss my childhood so, but in a good way. God bless you Miss Lori and thank you for sharing your life with all of us.
  • What a lovely video! Chicken and hand pies and herbs!❤
