Released in 1980, “Superman II” is a sequel to the super popular Superman I, and it was also followed by Superman III. They really nailed the numbers on these. Superman 2 continues the Man of Steel’s adventures as he battles Kryptonian villains including General Zod amidst the growing popularity of superhero films during the late 70s and early 80s.

Superman II definitely raises some questions though. Like where did Marlon Brando go? Why didn’t Lex Luthor just shut his lights? Why are snake bites so painful? Why did Superman have to give up his powers and then get them back so easily? What was with that cellophane S?

To answer all these questions, check out the pitch meeting that led to Superman II.

Clark Kent wears glasses, Superman doesn't. Ryan wears glasses, Producer guy doesn't. Wait.... I see what's going on here!!!
  • The Cosby connection to that scene is diabolical. An easter egg that would take decades to get lol!
  • @StandardGabriel
Saying "That'd be NUTS" after him saying "Blowing everybody in the streets..." almost flew over my head.
  • @painbow6528
I always loved how obvious it was that Lois wanted Superman, NOT Clark, but has to pretend not to be that shallow.
  • “So do you have a original comment for me” “No sir i dont”
  • @ripapa6355
That opening 'Superman Too' joke is perfection. 😘
  • @mcolville
The producers hated working with Richard Donner so much they decided if Superman was a hit, they'd fire him and if it was a flop they'd force him to finish the already-in-production sequel as punishment. Superman was a smash so, halfway through shooting the sequel the fired Donner and replaced him with the dude who directed the Beatles movie. Hence the sudden appearance of Wacky Hijinx and slapstick.

"this guy's reading the script? He's got all kinds of super powers." That works on so many levels.
  • @yowatchie
Man, that plot point where he arbitrarily has to give up his powers really is stupid. Thank god he was able to regain those cellophane S's and memory wiping kisses though.
  • @geestarrawify
"... So now they want hamburgers." Best transition ever! 😂😂
  • If I'm not mistaken, he goes back to the restaurant after he got his powers back and beats the shit out of the guys. A true hero kkkk
  • @ToshaDCary
The impossibility of Clark walking all the way back to the Fortress of Solitude from that diner wearing hardly any protective clothing was barely an inconvenience to the storyline.
  • @Chuck8541
I totally forgot about that snake bite! hahaha
  • @Omar-wq9dz
Hopefully, we get Superman 3 and 4 Pitch Meetings too
  • @cjjuszczak
2:25 "did they stop along the way to get her pyjamas?" Yes, and also to collect some salt, pepper, plates, food, champaign, ice bucket, cutlery , etc o.O
  • @TakeshiYoung
“I was thinking we could call it Superman too” 😂
  • @TheRockerX
I've never considered the crazy implications of Superman's memory erasing kiss ability 😂😂
  • “Oh luring people to your lair is tight!” Perfectly normal for Producer Guy!
