A big special thank you once again to @70sFan for helping to uncover rare NBA footage. The film has been colorized from black and white, the frames have been corrected for natural flow and the clips were up-scaled to 4k. Commentary was added also.

Who is better.. Bill Russell or Wilt Chamberlain?
  • I’m always frustrated that the NBA can’t do a dependable job of providing this footage. Guys like you are really doing an amazing thing for basketball.

I’m 81 years old. I saw both of these guys in their prime. Trust me on this: If Wilt had the supporting Bill had, his team would have lost no more than 5 games a year. Russell was a truly great player. Unbelievable defensive player who could guard any player on the floor, regardless of position, fabulous rebounder. Underrated offensive player who averaged over 16ppg, without looking to score. Excellent hook shot, excellent post moves. Great athlete. Very fast, could jump out of the gym, terrific passer from the post, and a superb outlet passer as well. That said, Wilt was from another planet. The NBA has never seen his like, and never will. Incredible blend of speed, strength, and skill. Had the best turnaround jump shot in the history of the league in his prime. Russell played him tougher than anyone else, but he’d be the first to tell you he thought he did a great job if he “held “him to less than 40. Wilt was an excellent passer from the post as well. Led the league in assists a couple of years. Could block shots all night. He and Russell were the greatest rebounders the game has ever seen. If he played today, and was 40 years old, he would destroy every center in the game. He’d average 45 and 20+ boards without working up a sweat.

this clip is better quality than all the 2000's NBA footage on YouTube. What the hell.

You have done the world a great service by making this footage so beautiful! Stunning to watch
  • Damn Sam Jones had that middy on automatic. Bro the OG Demar Derozan 😂
  • @00Mindi00
GREAT FOOTAGE. This looks awesome colourised. And its mind blowing just looking at Wilts body. He'd dominate today with EASE.

I hate how people dismiss this era as "a bunch of plumbers and milkmen". Like sure the talent and skill has grown since then, but you know what these were the best people that could play the sport at the time bar none.

Wilt was actually the best player in the league at his time. He has a lot of offensive moves that’ll be effective even today
  • @iandepositario
Sam Jones will thrive in any era. He's almost automatic in mid ranges not even hitting the rim.
  • Bill Russel did the tip dunk back then?! 😮 Damn. Live and learn. I will never underestimate any legend of the past ever again.
  • @MrLeroythecat
Awesome highlights, never seen such quality highlights from this time period.

I would simply not know how else to describe these two. Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain were both ferocious on both ends of the court. They dominated with their height and their abilities to defend and score at anytime. They were so agile and strong that many other teams they played against were left helpless. These two sold a lot of tickets at ballgames and that's also what made them both so special. You've had legends after them, but the real surprise was that they've met each other in the finals and knew what they were both up against: each other. However, the Celtic's teams of those days had many great players around Bill Russell. The 76rs had Wilt to practically carry that team, then when the Lakers had Wilt, they also had a few other great players too as well, but the focus was on these two greats to compete against each other. This is why they always filled arenas. By the way, great job on the color re-creation here.

I will repeat myself. I don't know WHO YOU ARE. Some of this footages are like 60 years old and sometimes looks like were recorded yesterday in 4K. OUTSTANDING JOB MY MAN! PS: Still waiting for Elgin Baylor video <3
  • @landonmosur9935
Watching these two is absolutely amazing to know they were friends and also competitive is astounding. Hearing these two interviewed talking together makes me love our great sport even more. They also pioneered what we needed
  • @TheDarkbluerock
The editing here is underrated. Far from perfect, but considering how old the footage is, even with funky colours this looks great!

Play basketball in a pair of old-school Converse sneakers? It’s amazing these guys didn’t break an ankle.
