This video was made in response to lots of questions from viewers asking "is there a catch?" so I wanted to address the downsides in a quick video to help people make more informed decisions before entering into a new car lease deal or some other kind of car finance arrangement. Thanks for the great advice, I think we get carried away a bit when we see a car we love. Thanks to you I'm now re thinking my choices for a more sensible type of car.

The best advice which was in one of your previous videos is: "Buy the deal and not the car"

After the 3 year lease is up I would be soooo gutted that I’m left with nothing and ALL my hard earned cash is wasted. This is madness. Ohh look at me with my brand new car that I don’t own. Madness.

just subscribed on basis of this video. Your channel seems to have a good content on leasing, which I am trying to understand as an option of purchasing a car. Man it's overwhelming.

Dead helpful, thanks. Going to go check some of your other videos. Looking into leasing, and seems to make perfect sense for us but almost looking for a reason not to do it! I was reading into how many people finance via pcp (loads)and then how many of those pay the "balloon" (not many) and thought why don't the vast majority of people lease? Guess my main worry is getting stung with any repair costs.

Great video. Looking for another car but always find the process depressing. Dont think the leasing is for me, ill just be anxious about using it. Lol

loved the vid, i just wanted to ask let’s say a car delivery is 7 months, do you start making the monthly payments from when you place the order or when you take delivery of the car?

Thanks for the info. I got a few questions, when ordering a lease car, do we get to choice the colour, specs? How does the government grant apply to this? Much appreciate it

I've had 2 lease cars and have always serviced at a independent garage.. I've leased a motor with alphabet leasing and in the process of seeing if I can with them
  • My lease is coming to the end and nothing really jumps out in leasing vs price at the moment. This does raise an issue that if I want to buy a car it's going to be second hand and I won't have a px so I have to use cash for deposit if doing hp or PCP. Worth noting you should save during the lease if you are thinking of switching back to other finance methods after!!!

Two main downsides that I can see are that (1) you never own the car so you must be aware of that, don't get too attached to the car, and (2) if there is any damage at the end of the lease, you will get heavily penalised financially. You could pay to have this sorted but that means that you don't enjoy the after-effects of having a "perfect condition" car again. I've used PCP instead twice, and bought the cars at the end of the term as they turned out to be good, reliable cars that I liked, and the residual values were affordable

Thanks for the information. If you are an ex-pat working here on a multi-year resident visa, how would you go about getting a car lease? Credit score will not have much history and not having a UK driving license.

Hi great videos, very helpful. Anyway i can run some questions past you that you could potentially help me on ? Cheers

Looking to lease ioniq hybrid . First time leasing so Making my way way through your videos to educate myself. Do you know where to find the best deals and also what's considered a good price?
  • Main points with leasing for me is chase the deal not the car, 20% max P11D value for two year lease, 30% for three year lease. So if car cost £100K P11D, two years should cost no more than £20K over the term for 10K miles a year. Also as mentioned, very difficult to impossible to get out of a lease early. I got a Toyota RAV4 recently after i gave back a BMW 8 Series. RAV4 was very boring and also had health issues which could affect my future jobs. I tried to hand this back a month in stating with the car market being sky high, should be sold on with no loss at all. P11D had risen £4K since my order and current new values. Company came back and said due to very good support provided on price by Toyota, they are banned from selling the ownership on within the first 12 months as it would be classed as a benefit. The only option would be pay 50% of the remaining payments of the 3 years lease. I had the option to extend the £272 payments a month on the 8 series for 5 months, i should have taken the extension and decided then if i wanted the RAV4 or not.

Hi, thanks for your videos. Very informative. The deals that you are showing on the Lease loco with the price per months and the DEPOSIT is completely different on the website. The deposit is not 3 months upfront is minimum 1500£ . Can you help ?
