I Ruined This Project by Trying to Make it Safe

In this video I ruin the look of this project by trying to add a safety roll cage, I don't like it. we are building a Mini Baja Bug using a Polaris XLT 600 two stroke snowmobile engine and a go kart fiberglass body of a VW bug.

Go back to the original hoop, make it slightly taller, strengthen it from the engine cage and get yourself some clip on hand restraints so your hands don't take a ride outside the chassis. And don't push the thing, pretty simple.

Whats destroyed this project right from the start is the size of the body shell. Right off the bat it was way too small and it’s caused compromise after compromise.
  • @rightnowracing
im glad you listened to him and towed it. that hurt me to watch you try to limp it on 2 cylinders.

I agree with the Windrock dude 28:22 "if this ain't the coolest thing I've seen in a long time I dunno what is."
  • @scottwright388
That guy said..."you done all that by yourself"...he definitely needs to see your channel.

6:38 - You should have done a small cage that hinged up then closed when you got in so it wasn't so big.... It would have looked a lot better w/ it hinged on the roll hoop then it would have those small safety pins (like on bike trailers) to hold it down but at least it's not permanent. 😂
  • Just hearing you giggling when you get on the throttle is awesome. You should be very proud of what you created. It was alot of hard work, but it all paid off. You will have spark restored in no time and be back on the trails.

Just make that roll hoop into a head cage like on a some dragsters, enough protection to not snap your neck if you roll but not big and ugly.

Bro you need to get rid of that motor and find a 450 4stroke motor somewhere to put in that thing . That motor just gets to hot and isn't gonna work ,it's it's for cold weather riding . Need a dirtbike motor.

I'm with you Chris ." Every man has to know his own limitations". You be you.
  • Although the roll cage takes away from some of the cool factor on this machine, nobody can deny that this thing is still bad ass. Nice job Chris.

I think you could have redid the existing roll bar behind you by making it significantly higher and wider, kind of similar to the dimensions of the new roll bar behind you
  • @JayGee6996
I think the only thing you could have done is go over the top with a big exoskeleton cage around the body

You "I hate the look, I don't like it", and I'm like "It's growing on me! I like the way it looks!" - Also, absolutely appreciate your over-building. When in doubt, overbuild, so you never have to think about it. 1/3 of the way through the video - if you're worried about tires exploding, build a safety hoop. Also - Buy a wide-band O2 sensor kit with gauge, weld O2 sensor bung(s) as close as you can to the cylinder in the exhaust, plug them when you're not tuning, and use the sensor to tune your carbs. Nice thing about a setup like this is you can carry the sensor between engines, etc... whenever you need to tune or check things. Near the end of the video - Re: lack of spark on one cylinder - probably just needs a coil pack. That's a cheap part for an engine.

i’ve owned many of these polaris snowmobiles and triples in general and it’s quite normal for them to bog until they are up to temperature. always run that premix right too and don’t overdo it.
  • Ok I agree with you just strengthen the hoop and head/arm restraint system. That way head and hands stay in vehicle if you roll over
  • @joebufford2972
Sounds like it could be that same ignition system issue you had before. Maybe the ignition is designed for not such a bouncy ride, remember snow is soft, not a lot of hard bumps
