NOTE: I am NOT a trained hairstylist whatsoever. I learned this from a hairdresser friend of mine and went for it. It works for me, so maybe it'll work for you too! P.S. If you're a professional hairstylist then just ignore this. You'll probs hate every single second of it. ❤️

NOTE: One of my hairdresser told me about this haircut and this (goo.gl/R3SEd2) is the only video I watched on YouTube before cutting my hair. ✂️

NOTE: I know it looks bad when I brush my hair like that, but it's chill.

I am REFORMED!!!! I did this tonight and got the best haircut I’ve had... well, ever! I get SO tired of paying and explaining what to do to my curly hair to a stylist only to walk out with hair worse than before I came in. They just don’t seem to understand why we want our “V” and until yo break with naturally curly hair you don’t get it and it allows me to let my hair naturally air dry and my curls simply LOVE me for it! Thanks girl! And for those comments that say, “ go pay for a hair cut- in a stylist blah blah- then you’re probably the same person I pay that I get bad haircuts from- they just don’t get it.

I never knew that us women with curly hair could actually cut it ourselves so easily! Thanks!!!
  • @suzanneshook375
Kristen, I love the results you got, but a tip. If you don't want the ends broken, don't brush it like that. Start at the ends, and go up gently. Especially when it is wet. <3
  • I am 54 and have always gone to a salon. I moved to a new town and can’t find anyone to do my mixed texture, graying in a fantastic way, old lady “do” — at least not like my former salon professional. 😩 So I screwed up my courage and did this cut. I was flippin’ brave...cutting 5” off and then relayering it with the steps you showed. It looks great! Thanks for your courage to try it AND to share it! You made an older lady’s day! Now I can budget that salon money elsewhere... BTW...conditioning my hair right now with coconut oil in a warm towel from the dryer. 🥴

This seems like a good quarantine descion

omg i just did this and it is by far the best hair cut i’ve had in a loooong time + it saved me a lot of money. if you’re doubting, do it!!!
  • @shingtome2179
People in the comments be saying "use a wide tooth comb!" and I can agree that's a good idea, but only for initial detangle. She wanted to make sure to get the hair very straight and smooth together in a ponytail, and you do that with a BRUSH.

I've let my husband cut my hair for 25 yrs and now I'm going to start cutting my own hair like we did in Jr high and high school. Thanks for giving me courage to do this myself. My husband won't get so nervous anymore. ☺
  • @SabeLoTodox3
I've just done this. This is so easy, I can't believe I've spend money for having people do it way worse than I could have done myself. Thank you so so much for sharing and explaining, you're amazing!

I love, did it myself and I love the layers. Did 3 set of layers and it looks like i came out the salon! Just what I needed after being locked up in the house for 3 weeks!!!!
  • I saw the video yesterday and took all my courage and did it today 😅 and I am more than happy 😍😍😍 I love the result. The layers are awesome and waves bounce to curls... Thank you for this video... And saving my money 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😁

Just tried this on the spur of the moment and it works! Just cut off all my straggly ends! Must have saved £40 on a haircut.
  • @syzyg8
THANK you! I'm an old woman and have never managed to find a hair-cutter who ever did anything to my hair that I actually liked. I especially like the fact that you included additional layers. My hair is down beyond my waist at this point, so I have plenty of room to practice.
  • @eternalzenlife
You just saved my head! I’ve been snipping away for weeks now and it was just getting shorter and shorter and looking worse than ever. I followed your directions to a T and am so happy with the results :) . Thank you for explaining how to do layers too. Going to try that next
  • @anettesaas
I read some of the other comments here and I have to agree that whenever I go to a parlor, they don’t hear me and cut whatever they want to cut. Short, long, uneven, whatever. This time I did it on my own and had it checked by the hubby and it turned out quite alright. I live in Norway and services like this can be quite expensive so I saved around 50usd (just an ordinary cut, no wash or tip). Thank you! ❤️
  • I tried this yesterday and it worked great! I was looking to trim my dead ends and clean up my layers and this did the trick. I have long, wavy hair and i'm very happy with how it turned out.
  • @ruskrewed
Just wanted to let you know I used this method to cut my ends (which were sooooooo split and awful) and it worked perfectly! My hair and I thank you 🙏😊
  • @hzsgames3844
Everhone here is chopping their hair off on quarantine
  • I just did this. It worked like a charm. I too, have curly hair. It has gotten thinner over time. It looks thick, but really isn't. Anyways. I have tried other methods. You know, parts on either side, tie off, cut straight accross. It never ended up looking nice. This method, however, really worked nicely. A lovely "v" at the back...healthier looking curls. The feathering after is a great tip...it makes the cut much less blunt. Anyways, thank you for posting. Cheers all the way from B.C. Canada....eh? 🍾🙂

My big sister is licensed cosmetologist/hair stylist. She has cut my fine mousy brown/wavy/curly hair since I was about 10 years old. Now I'm 48 and dang it if my sis up and moved to another state. NO! So I watched this video a few times and tried the KP-DIY cut method the first time Summer of 2018. I was so nervous. But I loved how it turned out. So I have used this method about every 2-3 months. It's time for my Winter cut and I don't get nervous anymore. However I had to figure out where I'd put the special pair of hair scissors after my last haircut! I love how I can do this cut myself and have not felt afraid I'd mess it up (not since trying it out for the very first time). I am always super eager to re-wash and style it after the cut, since it always reawakens my lazy curls. My supercritical big sister checked my work after the 2nd cut and totally approved, telling me I was doing fine with these cuts and that it looks nice. (She'd rather I cut my hair regularly even if I DIY it--than to just get in a funk because I don't trust others with my locks.) Yay, I don't have to let my hair grow wildly long and start to look ratty in her absence, nor do I have to shell out $$ to experiment with results from other hair stylists. And also, I love your cat Monkey!
