Published 2024-07-11
The Starlink Mini initial launch last month was disappointing for RV and boat nomads - but today, Starlink has finally made the Mini Dish available to all. And it can be ordered with both a 50GB data plan called Mini Roam, or Mobile Regional with unlimited data for $150/mo.

And.. in motion use is now supported on Mini Roam or Mobile Priority.

I purchased the Mini and received it about 10 days ago. I just took it abroad to the UK and switched to Mobile Priority for the month. If anyone is interested, I can confirm that it works globally on this plan and works quite well. You can switch back to mini roam for the next billing cycle. I can also confirm the mini roam plan does NOT work outside the home country, currently.

thank you for clarifying the plans. i heard about the $30 w/ home service and got confused when I saw the site. its self explanatory but saved me a call. Thanks
  • @OverlandCalling
Thank you for the update! Ordered and hopefully it will make it before I head across the US camping
  • Super helpful! I'm a full time RV'er and I personally use HomeFi. It's a great option for me and has worked wonderfully for all my remote work and streaming services. It connects me to the nearest strongest signal so I am constantly connected wherever I go.

This is great. I can scale back on my power source with the mini and save money. Thanks for the review.

It figures. I literally just bought the standard dish a few days ago I prep for our vacay because I couldnā€™t deal with the data cap but everything else about the mini was perfectā€¦.wah wah wahā€¦.

I cannot understand how Starlink/Elon could allow the engineers to release the high performance flat dish to have a lower IP rating than the lower cost options. As always, thanks for your content! I had not noticed the IP58 before this video.

Ordered. Iā€™ll have a friend bring it to Tahiti to install on my boat.

I think his prices for monthly service are out of touch for many. It started off great and now has turned for the worst.
  • @bobeastrise
thanks for the update and all you do on a regular basis.....
  • I am out in Bristol Bay Alaska and starlink has made a big difference in remote Alaska. I have had the standard for a year or so and when I got the offer to get the mini for 30 more a month I thought why not, but I didn't really need it with only nine miles of road out here. I just got the mini and while in seems simple enough there is little instructions of information on how to apply it. I wish things were clearer as to how to apply it to a vehicle.

Just a slow rollout getting everything to work together

Nice devices. But, man... What a subscription prices šŸ˜®

"Mini doesn't perform quite as high as Starlink Standard". Please elaborate. Consensus seems to be Mini dish and Gen3 are on par under ideal conditions, but Gen3 connection is more robust in the face of adversity: obstruction, weather. Are there other conditions where Gen3 might provide for more reliable video meetings? I need to use for work on the road "portable", not in-motion, from Nova Scotia to Arizona. I'll pay for more power if it means better reliability. I've found no side-by-side field test of Mini and Gen3. Also, graphic emphasizes Mobile-Regional LOWEST PRIORITY but Mini Roam graphic does not. Does this imply Mini Roam enjoys higher priority than M-R? Great vid, thx.

It will be interesting to see how T-Mobile reacts to this. Maybe their home internet/away fiasco will revert. I liked that product for on the road.
  • @scott5747
Last year we used our standard RV unit for a month on the road and used almost 900gb. A mini wouldn't do us any better.
  • @da.vo.6758
thank you for the video! Not sure you or anyone would know, but a question from a Canadian: if I was to purchase a mini in the US, would I be able to set it up in the US and then drove back to Canada, or would that not work? I'm guessing potentially that I would need to be at the location of my home zip code that matches on my credit card to be able to set it up? In which case it may not allow me to do that in Canada?
