Nestled by the tranquil Vaitarna Lake in Zharwad, Nashik, stands a holiday haven named "Terra," a testament to the harmonious dance between community and nature. Crafted with a deep reverence for the earth, this dwelling seamlessly intertwines with the surrounding forest, forging a bond as timeless as the landscape itself.

Approaching the site, one is greeted not by a mere house, but by a symphony of nature and architecture entwined. Sitting upon a sloping terrain, amidst the embrace of dense vegetation, Terra emerges as a beacon of unity with its environment and the context.

Born during the solitude of the COVID-19 lockdown, this project challenges the notion of isolation, birthing connections that blossomed alongside its construction. Guided by the wisdom of locals, artisans, and the vision of the clients who are a doctor couple with a passion for the outdoors, Terra stands as a testament to the collaborative spirit that breathed life into its mud-laden cob and stone walls.

With every room carefully designed to embrace the serenity of the forest and the serenade of the lake, Terra beckons its inhabitants to embrace the beauty of outdoor living. From sunlit verandas to the cozy intimacy of the attic, every space within this dwelling sings the song of nature's embrace.

Lime-plastered walls stand as a testament to timeless craftsmanship, while local basalt stone retention walls anchor the structure firmly to the land it calls home. Within its sturdy frame, lime concrete, fortified with the resilience of bamboo, ensures enduring strength against the passage of time. Every detail of Terra is a love letter to its surroundings, with local wood species lending their warmth to inbuilt furniture and storages. Terra speaks of connections and bonds of human hands and natural elements, a testament to the beauty of community-driven architecture.

  • Not just the architect, clients should also be appreciated. They seem as involved as the architect.

The blend of local terrain, locally available materials and in-general being in touch with the nature has made the home look like a home - this place feels comfortable, this place feels like a home. I'm a local boy, and my native home have the carved staircase as well. The home looks so thoughtful, and well designed - and at place - no overbombarding of elements to showcase luxury. I love how it blends with the terrain, so beautiful <3
